Spend $200 more for a S&W M&P AR and you get a rifle that is 10 times beter....

All I can say where reliability is concerned two lugs are better than seven.

Nothing wrong with that Mini 14 shoot eveytime you pull the trigger wear as the AR platform is more high speed , still wish I had never sold my Ruger

I hated the first one I had...love the second one....and it's even older than the first one..like 1980 or 81 year of manufacture.

I've got more AKs than I do ARs and more ARs than I do Mini 14s
The one I carry in my truck the most often is the Mini 14.
I got my first Mini 14 in 1976 and built my first AR in 1981.
I got rid of my Mini 14 after I built the AR. Then after I had the AR for a while, it went bye-bye.
Now I'll keep at least one of each.

Bought my first in 91 and had to sell it to pay for Medication and a Lawyer , just wonder if these newer model are better they the old ?

Just kinda nice to see Wal -E- World  back selling Rifle again , I had a Stainless Model and paid  $475.99  on sale at Walmart and I could

hit anything out to 300yd with no effort at all . ................................

I've been wondering if the older stainless models were better shooters...The 1980's regular Mini 'LEO trade' shoots fine...it's a stainless steel gun.

I've got one of the old Stainless Ranch rifles. It's in a fiberglass stock and I've worked the trigger over. and hung a birdcage flash hider on the end. For the first 5 to 10 shots you will get a 8 to 10" circle at 200 yards then it starts heating up and stringing them.  Not spectacular accuracy but good enough to kill coyotes.
I had a different rear sight on it but had to change it back to the old folder for the quick detach Warne rings and the 30mm 1.25-4.5x red dot scope I put on it. Accuracy over the iron sights improved to about a 5" group at 200 yards.
I started to send it off for the cryo freeze treatment and didn't do it.
Now we won one of the new "tactical" models at the Friends of the NRA last year and I haven't put but a few shells out of it.
Matt, my son, swears it is more accurate than the my old Ranch Rifle.
He hunted coyotes with it for a few years and knows the rifle well.
The new ones have a MUCH STIFFER barrel than the old ones. The barrel is very heavy under the hand guard, tapers down at the end of the stock.
It is also a bit shorter at 16.5" with a flash hider installed.
Barrel whip is much less on those new models than the new ones.
I wish I could tell you that I know how accurate Matt's new tactical Mini14 is but I can't for sure.
V, if we have a shoot sometime soon, I'll bring it and let you put some rounds down it.

The OKC Gun Club up by Arcadia would be a lot closer. But Fridays aren't good because they have several shoots out there on Fridays this time of year.
I'm trying to find a screw for my flip up back sight. One of them fell out at the Thunderbird shoot a couple of week ends ago.
Ruger doesn't have any.
I may rob a screw out of a 10/22 to see if it will fit. Those Warne rings won't work unless I have the flip sight on it and they are the only QD rings you can get for a Mini14.
I'll bring it and Matt's new "tactical" MIni1 4.
Did you know those are stainless too but blackened?
They are nice!
Let's hook up some time in the near future and shoot out at OKC Gun Club.
I'll be talking to you!

Only two on a Ranch Rifle. And they hold on the crappy folding rear sight blade.
Williams makes a much better sight to put on one and it is really worth the money.
Unfortunately, it sits to high for a 30mm scope so you have to use the factory folder.
All I can say is that the Mini14 is one hell of a lot closer to the Garand design than the AR rifle.

Have 4 AR but they can`t claim to be self cleaning
And Dan maybe being that barrel are stainless steel and a 1/9 tws, I know the one I had was and I bet a 12in group at 300yd would be EZ using
62gr ammo or better.  I let you know about going to  OKCGC  what the longest range their want to bring my AR for distance and how to get their .

I've had roll pins try crawl out of AR's.....the forward assist rollpin on my fairly new Del-Ton carbine..and the rear sight rollpin on my Century A2 rifle..

The new ones are supposed to better with their thicker barrels and better tolerances due to new machine tools (or something like that). Honestly, I wish Ruger would create a successor to Mini-14 that would eliminate some of the issues with the platform. A sporting gun with an AR-18 action would be awesome!
