I am not sure if anyone here lives in Cherokee County and rides motorcycles, but if you do, I would like to try to connect find some good rides.
I moved here in July and really have not found anyone to ride with or to show me the local riding routes, places to stop to eat, etc.. I've been exploring on my own, but haven't seemed to tap in to the right stuff Just traded in and bought a new bike that I am picking up tomorrow, so if anyone is willing to meet up and ride, it would be cool. |

I ride, mostly to work but get out on weekends occasionally. The best riding for fun and scenery would be in the north GA mountains. Helen area and all that.
What kind of bike to you have? You can always find a motorcycle club on meet-up or website devoted to your bike. |

I have a Harley Street Glide.
Here's the thing... I am not a big fan of large group rides for a variety of reasons and I don't dress like a pirate so most of the typical Harley clubs don't do it for me. I am pretty laid back and didn't get into Harleys for the lifestyle. I have heard about Helen. Never been up there. Sometimes it's nice to have a tour guide! |

How bad is it there if you get there really early on a weekday? Quoted:

It ends at the tail of the dragon which I tend to avoid these days. How bad is it there if you get there really early on a weekday? ^^^This. I have heard that it's a shit show between the traffic, the cops, the trucks that cut over the line and the cops (X2). |

I don't understand why they dont shut it down a couple times a year and do a pikes peak type event. They'd make a killing. |

The best riding in my opinion. The Moonshine 28. It ends at the tail of the dragon which I tend to avoid these days. I ride a Yamaha FJR super sport touring bike. I really like the section on hwy 28 running SE from Deal's Gap. but I think I need to try the whole length of the Moonshiner 28 on that map. Just for fun, I did a Google map of home - Walhalla, SC - Deal's Gap - Cherohala - Tellico Plains - Home. Just over 400 miles! I might just try that in one day, but an overnight cabin stay in Tellico could work too. |

I'd probably look to get there within an hour on sunrise if I went. I was up there during a December weekend when the temps were in the 60's. The place was deserted and the Crossroads of Time was closed for the season. I've been there on weekdays during good weather, and it was quite tolerable. I suspect it would be nearly deserted an hour after sunrise on a weekday even during riding season. |

That's great info. I poked around the net and didn't find anything nearly that good. I am always up for a ride in any weather if anyone wants to go! I'll hit you up sometime, I'm not in Cherokee but ride up that way often. Lots of good rides in West GA and east AL too. Like you, I don't ride in group rides and wear full safety gear. Too many people get hurt in group rides trying to keep up with the show offs and ride beyond their own ability. I ride a geezer glide, aka Ultra Classic or a BMW GS dual sport (when I get it put back together). |

Do you know any shops that specialize in dual sport/ADV bikes? Gonna need someone to wire aux lights for the bike I want to buy. Quoted:

I would assume the dealerships would have the ability to do the wiring and having them do it would probably preserve your warranty if you buy a new one. I have a Yamaha ATV I bought from Mountain Motorsports that I had a winch added on at time of purchase. They did the install and wiring before I brought it home. |

Good to know, I just want to add a LED light bar under the stock headlights. I was thinking of the KTM 1190 but reading 90+ page threads of owners discussing their problems changed my mind. |

Here's the new bike. I took a 150 mile detour on the way back from the dealer to my house today. It's a beautiful, smooth ride! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2959665/2015-02-14%2013.49.27%20%28Medium%29.jpg Nice color. I sold my '09 Street Glide before moving here. |

http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/173/Georgia/Georgias-Dragon---The-Suches-Loop.html My favorite spot and route to ride. Should you have an entire day, you can really hit some of the best roads in the entire southeast, in this immediate area. We are extremely lucky to have in our presence, this incredible topography and luckier still, to enjoy its closeness to us. |
