Any of you riders have some tips on CCW while riding? I'm on a sportbike, so no luggage options.
I'm thinking shoulder holster. But then again, do I really want a big hunk of metal full of little explosives strapped to me as I'm sliding down the pavement? Or I could go MadMax style and strap a scabbard to the gas tank... What works? Thanks! |
| Depending on your choice of gun and gear, you can get a small revolver/auto in a pocket holster (Nemesis type) in cargo pocket on your pants. If you're wearing leathers or ballistic or mesh jacket, there is usually a pocket on the inside that will fit a small one. Bigger guns I'm not so sure how you'd do it. Can you get a tank bag? |

I ride a Harley, i wear a G19 in a shoulder holster or/and a snub or a g26 in a ankle rig inside my left boot.
I wear a leather vest that conceals pretty well with a black shirt black holster. I think the ankle rig is probably your best bet on a sportbike if you dont wear a jacket |
| I ride a vfr800. And i carry my g26 in a crossbreed holster on my right hip. Its a great holster. Doesnt leave alot of the fireare exposed makeing it easy to conceal with any of my ride jackets. And a plus side i like the fact that there is something else there for me to slide on if i do go down. Im a skinny guy so every lil bit helps. |

The get offs aren't as soft as those race guys make it look. Lol |

I have seen quite a few guys on Cruiser style bikes open carrying on the 95 through Henderson....that looked like it would be most comfortable to me. Just because you can carry concealed doesn't mean you have to. the couple i remember seeing were a SAA Colt and a k-frame S&W both in standard looking belt holsters not slow slung cowboy style. I'm not sure how comfortable it would be on a sport bike. come to think of it the bike cops carry like that also.

there are decent tank or tail bags that will fit, even a sport bike. check wolfmanluggage.com for some decent options, but there's a lot more available.
i'm the ATGATT type, so i'm used to wearing gloves, boots, jacket and pants (stuff meant for riding, not just normal clothes), sorry, never been into the flip flops, shorts and wifebeater look.
a good riding jacket will usually have multiple pockets, unless it's track leathers. a LCP, PF9 or something else small and flat should conceal well in a jacket. i wouldn't want to be wearing an IWB in a get off, or grinding it into the pavement. dual sport guys dress like astronauts. lots of pockets and nobody's likely to notice. harley guys dress like pirates. sometimes that's an intersting fashion show with lots of exposed skin and could make CCW a challenge. i've seen one guy carrying in a tactical thigh rig on a sport bike years ago. didn't seem like the best idea at the time, but then i've also een people in town with a gun on the dash of their car. i wonder if that discourages panhandlers? anyway, in a tankbag with one of the kydex mini holsters/trigger covers that has a loop of 550 cord attached to something that will pull it off then you draw it seems like a good idea to me, and i'm not a fan of off body carry. |
I recommend a galco leather iwb. I got off my Harley at 70 mph, broke both my legs, my 1911 stayed in the holster. For riding I'd avoid kydex and stick with leather. Seems to have a lil more drag and stay in better. I field tested it so you don't have to.
I personally would stay away from a shoulder holsters (on a sport bike) as the gun would be angled straight down only held in by the snap. That would make me nervous. Rather have a lil help from gravity keeping it in place. |

While mine was pretty slow I suffered and big bruise where the gun was. The comp tac held up beautifully. I still hold my opinion that I would be more worried about finding one that is comfortable than what will happen with it when you go down. (With the exception of a SOB which can absolutely damage the spine) |

On my CBR929, I usually threw my LCR in my jacket pocket or appendix. The barrel is short enough that it didn't pinch my junk (which will happen) On my Street Bob, I just do IWB. The angle is right that the wind usually doesn't come up under my shirt. If it does, I just tuck the back of my shirt under my belt and I'm GTG. |
| I have been thinking about this myself a lot lately. Being on a sportsbike with ATGATT, I can't come up with a solution. My riding pants doesn't have a belt option so my nice IWB may not stay in place, plus my leather jacket walks up when I'm tucked. I thought about an ankle holster but again, my pants would prevent me from gaining access to it if I needed it. The last thing I want happen is to arrive somewhere and discover an empty holster. |

Thanks for site, I will check it out for sure. I usually carry in the back of my pants in holster or in my T -bag when it's too hot. When I got knocked down on I -15, it was still there. |
