I'll be moving to Boston for my Junior year of college, I really want to go there because I know it's best for me... ...but what happens to my Bushmaster...? Do I have to register it or something? What hassles will meet me when I move into my dorm? (Besides the obvious having to leave all firearms in some storage place... which I am already reluctant to do so.) Thanks in advance. |

You will need a Class A Licence to carry, and Unless your Ar is a preban or a ban type you can't have it in mass, (we have an assult weapon ban) Also if you are actally in boston they have a ban. And it is Very doubtfull you can get a class A anyway. (must be 21 and legal resident and many of the towns citys will not issue them out that way. So the long and short is don't bring it. See goal.org for info. |

Additionally to what WW said, MA bans all guns/ammo/mags/etc. on any college property. Legally if the President of the university or his designee gives you permission you'd be OK. I just don't know of any college in MA that will do that! BTW, that included mace/OC . . . you need a permit to possess in MA and still can't carry it anywhere on college property (or any other school for that matter). I agree with others, leave the guns home in TX. |

For a Texan, you are in for a shock if you come to MA!! Especially a liberal bastion like BU! These laws are not new here! I recall that back in the late 1970s I sent a letter to the President of Northeastern University (my alma mater) requesting permission to CCW on campus. My request was passed on to the Chief of Campus Police who sent me a politely worded letter saying "hell no" that they never grant permission to carry weapons on campus! My reasons for making the request were twofold: - The college still had 2 ranges on campus at that time and perhaps I could use one of them (alums can use the recreational facilities). [The ranges and rifle teams have long since been dismantled.] - My Wife was attending grad school at NU and her classes were on the Fenway late at night where I was picking her up after class. Much too dangerous an area to allow her to walk back to the T or commute home from there at 8-10PM. [Lots of rapes and muggings there. It really is not part of the "campus" and is a very poorly lit area (making it safe for thugs).] I was not an "unknown quantity" at NU. I am Alumni VP of my class, was involved in the former college radio station and student government for my entire time on campus and was well known on a first name basis by both the President and Chief of Campus Police, as well as a number of other Deans and college officials. In fact, when I subsequently ran into the President he asked me "Len, why the heck did you send me that request?" . . . I explained the law to him. |

Haha, sounds like a plan, but how do I explain this to the girlfriend? "We're going to live in New Hampshire..." "I don't want to. I want to live in Boston" "You, you, you! Everything is about you! What about the M4gery, damn it!" Right about that point ^^^ I would have been beaten with the stock of my own rifle. How can a LEO's daughter be so antigun?! Tricky thing is, that's actually the reason she is antigun. |

Haha, as great as an idea as that sounds Roger, I have a feeling you'd take me to court in some sort of sick custody battle. - RogerBall Gregory, as far as that idea is concerned, I just see nothing gold about that, but nice try! |
