My go to FFL operates out of his home but has been traveling frequently so I used a different place recently on multi-gun transfer (2 handguns).  I was told when I arrived I had to fill out an additional ATF form and they were going to charge $50 on top of their normal $35 fee.  Or I could wait and process it the following week. I've done multi-gun transfers in the past and have never been charged additional fees. Is that standard anymore?  They also tacked on the additional $2 for the VA State Police Charge. I've never paid that much on a transfer before.

I dont know about Virginia specific policies, but I bought 5 pistols one day (only 2 years ago) in Texas.  4 from a home based FFL (I  ordered a bunch online) and another one at a second FFL.  When the home based FFL saw how many I was buying he told me the local cops OR the ATF might  give me a phone call just to ask why I bought so many.  I didnt pay any extra federal fees.

Sounds like your new FFL is just gouging you.   That is pretty standard procedure if your new FFL is NOT home based.  They do anything they can to discourage online orders.  I dont blame them but I dont often give them my business either.

$2 is pretty standard, its the VA State Police fee for background check.  $50 is on the high side, and the second fee depends on FFL.  Some charge a "discount" others charge $5 for the second one.  They could do it on one form.  It also depends on where it's coming from, some will not accept private transfers and only do FFL to FFL, others will accept from individuals and some charge a fee.

Also depends on which part of Va and big box store vs smaller shop.

If I got $50 from everyone who bought a 2nd handgun, this post would be getting typed by one of my "personal assistants' from one of my corporate jets while en route to some sunny exotic paradise.

Instead it is just me sitting in my boxers typing this from my NC Based Double-Wide.

Thanks for whomever fixed the NSFW picture.  I had no idea.  We aren't bound by such PC rules in our double-wide corp HQ.  However, our dial-up internet service does make downloading pictures very tedious.

$2 is the background fee, most dealers just roll it in to the transfer fee.  I charge $20 per 4473, no extra fees and no extra forms for you to fill out.

That is whacky.

While there is a form to be filled out, IMO it is more work to do 2 4473s, 2 background checks, 2 BOS, etc. So they charge $50 for less work, and free for more work on their part?

And if there is a pattern in your books of folks coming back a week later to pick 2nd, 3rd handgun it makes you the dealer look like you are trying to skirt the law.

Yeah, I don't plan on going back to them again. I had my wife with me so we both did one each since it was cheaper than paying an extra $50.  It's worth the drive to go to Quantico Tactical.

Speaking of Quantico Tactical, they were the shop where I bought the other gun on the day where I bought 5 guns in one day.  Only shop anywhere near Fort Hood that had great prices, intelligent staff and great selection.

Now that Ill be in NoVA, I look forward to frequenting another of your stores.  :)

I believe that multiple handgun purchases require an FFL to send in a form to the ATF.

IMO the transfer fee ought to cover any and all paperwork required.

The Gun Dude in Fall Church has become my go to guy for transfers as they welcome
the business and have some automated tools to send their FFL out via email.
