I have a minor rant, probably a 0/10.  Saturday I was back in Oklahoma visiting some family, and I went to the Metcalf gun show sat morning.  Not much there to speak of that I was interested in, got a few magazines and that is about it.  Went to Outdoor America and bought 1K XM193 there (btw great deal Lake City 09 for 367+tax).  My family lives in Mustang now, so on my way back I saw the sign for for a gun store that is in Mustang, and still having a considerable wad of money burning a hole in my pocket and not having gotten my fix at the fun show, I turned in to the parking lot.  I was really looking to get either an underfolder AK or a FAL (maybe a DSA if I could find one) or possibly both.  I walk in and a guy behind the counter was pretty damned rude to me by the time I got about 10 steps inside the door (and this is the first time I have ever encountered it to this degree), so I took my money (~3.4K) turned around an walked out.  I don't know what the guy's problem was, but I will not go back there again.

YMMV

Rant over.

Oh and to help the score out, as I fucking walked out the door I bladed at 45 degrees and had a massive adrenaline dump.  (cursing, blading and adrenaline)

I don't care for the place much either. The one time I went in I thought the prices were high and they were non-negotiable. They weren't the least bit rude to me, cordial but not exactly jumping to help me either.

must have gotten his customer service training at fred baker's/OA back in the 80s and 90s

I have to say though, I sure do miss the days back in the 80s when a man could walk in there to buy a case of white box federal m193 for $90otd and a norinco for $80.

Me too, that was back when I still lived in Oklahoma.

Boys, we are talking about the good ol' days.

Can you describe the guy behind the counter?  Net time you are here look at Big Boys Guns and Ammo off Council Rd in Wheatland (between OKC and Mustang).  They had G3, underfolding AK's, and M1a's there today.

That's where I was.

If it was Big Boys then 10 steps would have put you behind the counter.  It is a small shop.  They are a straight up store with good folks so I would be very surprised anyone there would treat you that way. If any consolation, Mike, the owner, usually takes Saturday off.  If it was the shop on Hwy 152 in Mustang, that is a different place. Steve

On council, across from gas station, in wheatland, big ammo shelf on left and gun counter on right, gun counter wraps around the store.  Big Boys guns, and I have been going to gun stores for many a year, I haven't even been treated that at OA back in the 90's and I was in college.  Like I said YMMV.

Lol I am in college and get treated like that most places I go. I guess I just look like an asshole college kid. Usually once we start bs'ing they realize I might know a lil more about guns and common sense than the average asshole college kid. Funny how that works.

There's no reason to doubt the original poster's account of this. When I read that the store was Big Boy's, my reaction was that they've never been like that when I was there, of course it's been a while, and maybe I should check it out, and if I'm going to make the drive I'll probably come home with something (I always do) ... maybe others had the same reaction. Could be the tinfoil is slipping in my hat lining or I got behind on my meds, or my tongue got stuck in my cheek, but some pretty inventive guerrilla marketer COULD start a little local customer traffic with a post like this ....

They had an SR25 there once upon a time priced at $6900.   I never went back after that.

I live in Missouri, and I am an engineer for the State of Missouri, I was just back in Oklahoma visiting family, not trying to drum up business for another outfit.  If you will notice, I didn't name the store initially.  In all honesty I kind of hoped it would be a decent store since it is so close to my parents house.

I use to work at BassPro and it is a guarantee those working behind the counter will deal with idiots sometime during the day. They will try your patience to the point of anger at times.
If you ran into a ticked off salesman, it might be because of who he's had to deal with before you came in. You can't really make a determination of customer service by one incident. If you
go in there again and something similar happens, the probablity they have poor customer relations is pretty strong.
Dealing with the public sometimes cannot be easy. And it is hardly ever consistent somedays depending on what has happened previously.

I thought you was talking about mustang pawn/gun,

I was at bigboys this past friday, soon as I walked in a dark haired dude, mid to late 20s, green eyes, approx 5'10", 190lbs said he was working on something in back, that if there was a gun or something I'd like to look at just hollar, then he stepped back into the shop.

how many stores around these days that would just let somebody walk around unsupervised?

and they didn't have any of the charter arms 9mil revolvers, or convertable 45c/45acp blackhawks.

Well, I am sorry you were treated that way but that is not the character of that store or the owners. They have good variety, great military weapons in stock, will work trades, will work cash deals, and they can order or repair to boot. I've bought weapons all over Oklahoma and all over the country and they are one of the better ones. Sorry you did not see that on your brief visit. Steve

After making my facetious suggestion of a guerrilla marketing campaign, I thought of a real possibility: the Original Poster dropped by after an unsatisfying stop at the gun show. Maybe the clerk saw the stamp on the poster's hand and made a crack that was misinterpreted.

An SR25 for 6900 bucks, come on.

I think most of the staff members there are pretty dry folks –––– but unfortunately, the OP must have got in when somebody was having a bad day.   (i have purchased 4 firearms there in the last few months)

I have witnessed the clerks displaying truly admirable amounts of patience at times when dealing with customers who honestly confuse a flat top AR with an AK variant and wind up walking out with a pistol grip Maverick shotty or something.   Then they have to deal with the high and tight wearing guy who is an armchair expert on everything –– and everyone in between.   Its part of the fun of working at a gunstore though, ––

To the Op,  im sorry you had a bad time there, its usually not quite that bad

I've bought there an as new Python for $1400,  a Springy GI 1911 for $480, a used levergun for a price i cant even recall, but it was fair,  and an RIA Officers size 1911 for around $400.   None are truly earth shattering deals –– but i definitely dont feel like i got hosed.   Ammo used to be high there though.
I like the shop and usually stop in when i am on that side of town to see if anything cool pops up behind the used gun counter

Outdoor America i like too –– i in fact worked there for a couple of weeks a few years ago when i was in a rough patch with my job ––- thankfully the layoff ended soon.  Talking about guns all day and hearing the same old crap all the time can get old.
