Good evening.
I just accepted a position to relocate from PA to NC. The process of relocation will begin as early as January. I'll be in temp housing for a while until we find a home. 1. While in temp housing, may I take a CCP course. I'll still have a PA driver's license until we move permanently. I'm assuming I can't apply for my CCP until I have a permanent address. 2. Do I need "sponsors" to apply to my local sheriff after taking the CCP course? Lastly, I need a range recommendation proximate to Wake County. I shoot ARs, M1s, pistols on the bench and practical/action. Suggestions? I'd like to get on the waiting list ASAP, if required. Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get home in Jan.... Jeff |
I used to shoot at the Wake County Firearms Center when I lived in the Triangle. Decent indoor facility, pistols and rifle, with a 100 yard indoor rifle range too. It was always pretty crowded on the weekends, and only open from like 1-5 or something like that on Sat and Sun. To shoot there you had to take a 2 hour safety course with them first. Haven't been there in 3 years now though, so it may have changed some. I think there are some other private ranges in the area, but as a poor college kid it sufficed. Some RO's were uptight folks, but some were really nice. One of them worked with me on my pistol shooting for about 30 minutes one day when it wasn't crowded (I was still new at pistols at the time and shot like this -> ). You can take the CCW course anytime, but you probably do need a permanent NC licence to apply would be my guess. Do you have a PA permit? I believe we honor theirs, so it would be valid until you changed your residency I think. No sponsors needed, just take the course certificate and apply. Different Sheriff offices have different processes though between things like needing appointments and such. Also welcome to NC! I've worked in PA too, NC is a much nicer place |
