Say I purchase a complete SBR upper, and don't have an NFA stamp back yet. Can a friend of mine with an SBR stamp install my upper on his lower to shoot? I'm assuming that since the completed gun will be on a lower with a serial number that has a tax stamp, it would be ok.

But always good to see what the HTF has to say...

Sure.  He's free to put whatever SBR upper on it he wants, so I don't see any reason why not either.

HOWEVER, Just make sure you don't have a lower it can go on with you when transporting it.  Technically you shouldn't have a SBR upper in your possession if you have a lower.  But I'd absolutely make sure you're never in possession of both in any public place, including your car.

Or just get a pistol buffer and put it on a lower and shoot it like that.

Good point, though much easier said than done right now.

But just be sure you don't take a lower off a rifle bought as a 'rifle'.  If memory serves you cannot take a rifle lower & make it a pistol unless it's been SBR'd, only the other way around.

Going to store the upper at a friend's house who has a legal SBR (at least until I get my stamp).

Fun times ahead...

Of course, need to wait for LaRue to build it.. ;(
