| How's it going gents? Long time lurker here, have been planning on purchasing a new AR, but unfortunately I'm from the great state of NJ. On the flip side, I'm currently active duty here in NC. Here's my dilemma, I want to purchase a new AR, but I want something that I can bring home to NJ and legally shoot. With that said, I have no issues buying something that isn't NJ legal and buying some extra parts to make it NJ legal. Would you buy a non-NJ legal rifle, and then buy a fixed stock/extra bull barrel,.. or buy a NJ legal rifle, and order parts that I want separately? I'm currently looking at a M&P15FT (bull barrel, fixed stock, 10 rd mag), and then ordering the barrel/stock I want after. What are your thoughts? Also, where can I find bull barrels? I can find these online anywhere for purchase. I appreciate the help. |

Welcome to arfcom.. You could just stay in NC (i work in nc alot) and keep whatever gun you want. Weather is nice, not a bad place. Much better than cold up north and being behind enemy lines.
That said, i sold my colt hbar on the EE (equipment exchange) to someone behind enemy lines and bought what i wanted. Id explore your options and do what is cheaper, but it mAy be easier for you to find an existing ar and get the parts, rather than finding a nj legal rifle outside of nj... (Why would i want a neutered ar??) Also be sure to check your hometown forum to ask questions about nj laws etc to make sure whatever you plan to do is good to go. |
| I'm glad you guys are tracking my situation. And yes, it is killing to have to have a neutered AR, but I'd rather be able to shoot it legally back home, and keep the "goods" in the safe so I can convert it to a real AR whenever I so please. So back to my original post, have you been able to find any AR bull barrels around? My original plan was to buy an AR down here, and just buy a bull barrel and fixed stock, but for the life of me, I cannot find a bull barrel anywhere. That was my rationale for buying a Jersey legal AR, and then buying the barrel/stock that I want. Any places you know I can find a quality bull barrel? Much appreciated. |
