| Anybody taken NRA instructor training? Tell me about the process. Our local scout trooop is looking for a shooting merit badge instructor. |
| Depending on where you're at, you should look up Doug Stanton. Doug is a balding, skinny guy who works the entrance at the PRO shows in Columbus. I took my courses from him last year and I was certified in Basic Pistol, Personal Protection in the Home, and Home Firearm Safety over a Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday. I'm sure his price has gone up, but he runs a great class and he's a really great guy. He's also walked the walk: How Many Lives Were Saved? |
| I took my instructor training from the OSU Rifle Coach. I don't know if he's planning on teaching the course again anytime soon, but I can check. When I took it from him, it was $10 per instructor rating to cover materials. However, my class was all former shooters he had coached over the years, so it may be a bit more for the general public. |
Not all the time. I thing the turn-around for me was about two weeks or so. That was for both Pistol and Rifle. On a scouting-related note, a group of us are forming a BSA Venturing Crew, chartered by the Friends of the NRA Worthington and meeting at the Power Room in Powell. I'm told the assigned Crew number will be 45. We are still organizing and I expect that everything will start happening just after the turn of the year. If anyone wants further information, feel free to drop me a note at [email protected]. -- Mike |
