I skipped out of work early, and raided the ATM, in the hopes of finding a Saiga 5.45.  No dice. I didn't see one there, although Dark Sun has .223 Saigas for 260.00.  I found a Russian Makarov for 200.00, but since I bought a pistol last weekend, I couldn't snag it.  Ammo prices are going down, so were standard AK prices.  I bought some pieces for the Drago, and a seller had M4 detachable carry handles for 25.00. She claimed they were USGI, and they look used, so I picked one up. Bought a few AK mags.

There was one seller who had a crate of Mosins, and was asking 119 each.  They were really clean and pretty, and although that's a little steep, I might go back and grab one. They had laminates and solid stocks, hex and round receivers.

Where was the vendor for the M4 detachable carry handles located?  I may be looking for one.  Tks!

Was thinking of going but the last show was kind of disappointing. Is this one better then last?

For the vendor with the M4 carry handles, it's about in the middle of the hall, across from a vendor selling some sort of food product. (Big food sign) Behind to the left of Jerry's, I think. They will be in a glass case.  Is it better than last show? If you are talking about the last show held in the hall (Military collectible show last month) yes, it is. It's about the same as the Richmond show.

Didn't seem that crowded this afternoon, plenty of parking available.  The discount flashlight vendor had Fenix LD01 flashlights on sale for $30 NIB, so I picked up two.

I'm headed early Sat. looking for mil spec large rifle primers, and .30 cal 168 bullets. Hopefully the prices aren't too steep - I'm in the middle of a Garand reload, and need them either way...

Picked up a mapul bad, first aid kit, and gun bag. Some neat antique guns there too.

Best show there since I started going early last year, no crowds, more ammo, guns, accessories...

Best prices for ARs were at Trader Jerrys:

S&W MP 15 X   $1099
S&W MP  15 T  $1399 (that is the cheapest I have seen it anywhere...)

Also saw 2 Colt 6940 for $1499, suprised they weren't sold.

Cheapest .223 ammo (new) that I saw was PMC for about $339/1000, still can do better on-line, and not have to drag it around.
4/24/2010 5:31:22 AM EDT
[#9]
Yeah there was a BUNCH of ammo. Name brand stuff was still $$$ and I was in the market for .223. Saw a bunch of no name stuff for cheap, but I was scared away.

We just returned.  Was looking for another SA TRP, and saw only one priced at ~$1400.  Notable was a seeming lack of 1911's available...lot of Glocks though.....

Great show today. .223 tula ammo was $230 a case. It's cheaper than online.

One guy had decent surplus usgi mags for 5/$20.

I picked up one of the new carry handles for $25 and an AR armorer's tool for $25, total was $52.25 (tax included) from them.  Then I got around on the other side of thier table and saw the used carry handles for $25.  Thought briefly about trading but didn't.  Also picked up two M-14 20 rd mags, ROK manufacture for $24.00 total.  Got a Spike's stripped lower from Dark Sun for $92.00 out the door.

I went this morning (10:00am, no line but full parking lots) looking for a Chiappa M1911-22 and made a bee-line to Dark Sun's tables. As usual they did not disappoint as they had one for $248.74 OTD and that included tax and call-in. I bought two extra mags at $16 ea and while I was waiting for the State Police to digest the paperwork I looked around to compare prices. As I figured Dark Sun was a full $50-$65 cheaper on their asking price for that pistol than anyone else there and I looked at quite a few. I visited the Oriental parts ladies and got a band spring for a K98, picked up my Chiappa and left.

I really enjoyed the parking lot about as much than anything else. I sat there eating my luch before I left (in the intrest of safety) and must have had 20 vechicles roll to a stop thinking I was leaving. I'd hold up my sandwich and Dr. Pepper and would get all kinds of nasty looks.

All and all it was a good show. At least I got the two things I went in looking for and steller service from Dark Sun.

I picked up a Remy 870 Express Tactical with ghost rings, picatiny receiver rail, and breacher choke for $550 OTD...not too bad considering the same item online is $575 plus shipping and transfer.

I went Friday and bought a couple of cases of .308GMM from Joe, the really nice old guy who comes down from NJ with all of the ammo.  I also picked up a stainless Ruger MKIII 4.5" Hunter from Dark Sun for $419 .   David was a good $80 cheaper than even Trader Jerry.  I put a Jpoint on it yesterday and took my 9yo son out for some good times.  Man, that kid can shoot for only being 9!  I may take him with me today and go back to the show if it rains.

I have never seen the parking lot THAT full!  Wow!  My score list was simple:  Grips for a 1938 Ballister Mollina .45.  Blue Ridge Collectables came thru.  Bought a case of 9mm from NOVA Arms and, yes, those Moisins were tempting!!!!

my mom and dad and a couple of their friends road up from the harrisonburg area and were in attendance today.

my dad was looking to sell a 12ga smith and wesson 916a (it's an all black police shotgun, we joke and tell him it was charlie bronsons' late 70's early 80's version of a tactical shotgun), and a boxed set of colt lord and lord derringers. i haven't heard yet if he sold them though, or what he might have gotten out of them. he was looking to pick up some cash for another m4gery build.
a couple weeks ago he sold off a colt saa gen 2 in .357, and turned that cash into a colt sp1 r6000, he'd always wanted a vintage balck rifle so i think he was pretty happy with that deal...

mom did call me early this afternoon and woke me up asking me what size shirt i'm wearing these days?.. sounds like i'm getting a consulation prise since i didn't get to go...

I made out.

I needed mil spec primers, and .308 projectiles. I walked away with :

CCI No. 34 primers, 1K for $34 ( still a little high, but at least he had them)
250 Hornady 168 gr. BTHP's for $58 - not bad, pretty average
a Hornady hand chamfering tool for $12
2 more MTM reloading blocks for $5 each
a set of RCBS 30-30 dies for $30
and an RCBS shellholder for $7.

Not a bad day, and they pretty much everything I needed and wanted. Went early Sat. morning, and other than a full parking lot, the crowds weren't bad - no line to get in either.

Can you say what he did? I'm not going to go to gun shows run by him anymore if it's bad enough. I don't like helping scumbags to continue being scumbags.

Sorry, I'm kind of new to all of this stuff. I just go to the gun shows, I didn't know there were back room stipulations and shady crap going on. I'm not really surprised though.. that's how it is almost everywhere.

I didn't go this time, since I felt like I wasted $11 last time (usually I like to just walk around looking at stuff even if I don't buy anything) but I'm getting tired of all the signs threatening you with arrest. Yes, we know the law regarding FFL sales. Those who need to be reminded shouldn't be given a heads up. I know the chantilly gun show has been getting a lot of attention from the antis, but that isn't an excuse to cave in and start treating patrons as suspected criminals. And considering the parking lot is shared by other businesses and is not owned soley by the expo center, I'd like to see their "no private sales in the parking lot" rule hold weight. If more is posted (specifics) about the gun show promoter, I might not even think of going again. Besides, a lot of the stuff I go to the show for, I can either get for the same price at VA Arms, or order online (and shipping usually costs less than the show's entrance fee).

I'm all for keeping gun shows going, but I've gotten tired the past year or so, the show just hasn't been "the same" since I started going 5 years ago.

Without specifics this sounds more like a personal vendetta to me. With all the foul language the accuser uses I really have to wonder who the "dick" is.

I helped a friend with a set-up last year and the staff seemed friendly and professional. Lucky or just willing to abide by their rules for the privledge of setting up there?

My rule of thumb concerning going to a gun show is this: I go with the intent to buy something specific and usually call the vendors I deal with all the time (like Dark Sun) to see if they are bringing what I want. All those little piles of business cards are put out by the dealers for a reason you know.

I guess if I went to every show as some here do it would look about the same but I hit about every third one. As to the poster who figures he can do better elsewhere I say have at it. IMHO it will amount to one less parking space being took up and one less body to get in the way inside....You will not be missed.

I telling ya you just can't satisfy some folks. I can clearly remember the rending of garments when folks complained about no large show in the area, driving to Richmond, the crowds at Hugo's and so on. Don't like the posted rules don't go....It's that simple. I swear sometimes I think some gun owners are the biggest bunch of whiners around or at least feel in some way entitled to get everything their way..

No he didn't fuck my sister, lol.  I'm being vague b/c I don't have a ton of detailed info, just stuff I've seen/heard about over the last few years.  What I do know is:

1. Kicks out Quantico Arms, who IMO had some of the coolest kit there.  That pissed me off.

2. Kicks out JT/Double Star, who couldn't make ONE FUCKING SHOW B/C OF THE SNOW STORMS, so they can no longer come.  Myself as well as many others liked their table for misc. AR parts.

3. Kicks out Furr Supply Company b/c apparently they did something to piss Steve off, and I was there as he annouced it on the PA as he was kicking them out.

4. Kicked out customers for stupid shit.  I have seen him yelling at people and accusing people as trying to sell stuff w/o being a dealer b/c a dealer asked "how much" for a sword a customer had slung across their back.  Steve just went off on the guy.

5. Kicked out a camera crew covering the show, and basically assaulted the guy in the parking lot.  Yes, they were European, but still......

No I was not that customer, and I have never been kicked out of the show.

He just seems to have a very short fuse for anything he doesn't like, and doesn't seem like a reasonable person.  I like the people at Quantico, I like the people at JT/DS, and I like the people at Furr Supply.  They are all good people and don't deserve to be treated like crap b/c Steve is a dick.  Like I said before, I think it is great there is a local gunshow and that people go.  It's good for the 2A.  And it's Steve's show, so if he wants to be a dick, he can.  BUT, I can choose not to attend, and I can exercise my 1A rights and get on my soap box and bitch if I want.  I also didn't start this thread, just throwing in my 2 cents b/c this is the internet, and I felt like it.  This is my last post on this.

So BT500 it seems you are operating off of a sprinkling of 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd hand information. Yep, that will really give me pause and not go to one of the biggest shows on the east coast when I know a deal awaits.

Oh yeah, Early Bird gets worm.....and a decent parking spot.  I'll admit that I  just got lucky the other day and avoided the "mud bog". 75 yards away at 0945.

May I suggest you communicate in the same foul language you seem so fluent in to "Steve" himself at the next show. Make a point of it to seek him out and really jack him up and tell him what you think. Perhaps you could give it 15 min to draw a crowd if you don't mind. That would be much more entertaining for show goers  to watch while waiting for paperwork to clear and would beat the dickins out of standing in line for a Chantilly Salmonella Dog.

LOL the food there leaves lots to be desired  sure enough and that's 1st hand info. I made the mistake of getting a dog and fries there a couple of years ago and was sick for two days. Let's just say the last half of my 45 min drive home that day was "interesting".

Give me the Dale City Show anytime for the BBQ special they run on show days. Good Ole VFW food.

I'm surprised you guys even go with their "NO LOADED GUNS" signs all over the place.

that shit gets old real fast too. Plenty of gun shops operate just fine without such policy. If people are too stupid to handle guns safely, and know they shouldn't be unholstering their loaded carry piece to try out a holster, then I'm more worried about them being in public at all.

My biggest complaint is the people working at the show. With the exception of one of the ladies checking firearms at the entrance, the rest of them (generalizing) are impolite and act as though they're doing you a service by having the show, kind of like the soup nazi. Guess what? Without us customers and vendors, there wouldn't BE a show.

can someone please explain this no private sales thing?

i generally don't leave the area(h'burg-fishersville) to go to shows, and around here it's more than a little common to see folks trying to unload thier private arms to either vendors / dealers, or to other private individuals...

the "no loaded guns" shit is retarted. it's about as bad as a buddy of mine whom bought a long arm at a walmart and had to be escorted to the front and out of the building by a manager(presumably so he wouldn't load and use the long arm in commision of a rime on walmart property) all the while wearing a loaded handgun...

Before a few months ago, it was not uncommon to see people outside the entrance with a gun or two for sale. Now the show wants all sales to take place inside the show (most likely to make sure you paid for a ticket) and threaten you with arrest for trespass if they see you outside conducting a sale or offering anything for sale. I'm not sure how they could enforce this, since the parking lot is shared by multiple businesses and not just the expo center the gun show rents, according to the FCPD officer I spoke with a few months ago (not at a gun show and not about the gun show) the most private property owners can do is ask you to leave the building, but after you're in the parking lot of a shopping center shared by multiple private businesses, they can't do anything else. Yes, if you're inside and refuse to leave, THEN you can be charged with trespass.

The web site describes the "no loaded guns" as an insurance requirement. Frankly, I'm inclined to believe it.

As for "no private sales", I suspect it's a matter of allowing private sales inside the show - after all parties have paid the entrance fee.

I'll go one step farther.

I was at Wally World last month. I didn't know it was against there policy to conceal carry, I was at the time conceal carrying. It came up in conversation with the sales guy during the sale that CC was not allowed.
I purchased a 250 round pack of ammo and had to be escorted to the front(there register was not working in the sporting goods section) and the sales guy had to watch it get rung up and me leave. Now mind you, they thought I was unarmed. Go figure. did they think I was going ot open it up and throw ammo at people???

ok i get it, it's a FTF sales inside = Ok, FTF outside not OK , kind of thing... my mistake, i got the impressing that all private FTF sales were now being disallowed... that makes since, and persoanlly if that's the case i don't really have any issues with it.

if someone pays to rent the arena you gotta play by their rules(even if you disagree with having to unload or leave your bat in the car). the difference in this and my ihop incident to me is that what the manager carried out in my incident, was not the offiial policy of the company...

as far as i know with the ammo it's a theft thing not a danger issue. which would make since as the ammo is locked up, but they will remove it for you and they will ring you up at the ammo counter and let you walk around or out, on your own. anytime the register wasn't up and running they have either walked the ammo up front with me or carried it up and left it with the cashier if it was late at night(with only 1 or 2 registers open) and i had more shopping to do...

there are not any "no firearms" signs at either of my local walmarts(though i have heard that CC is frowned upon), and i have not been hastled yet when OCing...
