I'm considering getting my nephew a .22 for Christmas.  This will be his first gun and his parents aren't gun savy, so I need advice on two things:

- Please recomend a good gun store in the Augusta area.  My plan is to buy a gift certificate for the amount of the gun and have his father purchase the rifle.   I'm looking for a larger store with a good reputation and selection (I'm thinking a 10 22 or a Marlin 60)

- Need recomendation on a range where I can get my nephew some range time and a safety class.  I'm looking for a fee to shoot range vs. a club

- Where do you take hunter safety classes?  Can he take one with his father at the range?

I spent a few years in high school in Augusta, but it's been so long I can't remember where things are and I'm sure things have changed.  There used to be a nice store near the Home Depot in Martinez (had a huge bass 'pond' with huge bass in it), but I'm not sure if it's still around.

Thanks for the help.

That store closed down, check with Scott at Waldens about the .22, its right across the road from the store you mentioned, or academy normally has a good selection of .22s. Check GA dnr website for the hunters safety course.

Scott over at Waldens is great. He is across the street from the Walmart/Sams on Bobby Jones.
