My shop was broken into for the 4th time in 3 months and I need some items fingerprinted if possible . Shoot me an email at my handle at Gmail.com Thanks. |
| The prints will be useless unless taken by the agency investigating the break-ins. You can't do anything with them yourself and someone from another jurisdiction can't do you any good. Also, latent prints are only really worth anything if you have a suspect to compare them to. What do you hope to gain by having an uninvolved officer lift prints? |
As bmick said, no. In a criminal case the only time latent (lifted) prints are really worth a crap is when you have a suspect to compare them to. If they match, you have evidence. If they don't match you don't have crap until you find another suspect to compare them to. AFIS might contain a match from a person charged/convicted for something else in the past, but agencies other than the one holding jurisdiction over the break-ins are NOT going to run them for him. I'm not even sure if you can use AFIS for something like that. I don't work that end of things. This is another thing that shows like CSI have made people believe will work every time when it won't. Then, when we know there's nothing there to process people think we just don't want to do it. We usually end up being forced to spread powder all over whatever they want printed, leaving them a mess to clean up and get no prints anyway. I hate these shows for that very reason. People think every department has the resources that the people on the shows have. The latest here is people wanting prints done using super glue. Our "chamber" to do that in is a small fish tank, They usually change their minds when I explain that I can take it in to get that done by the investigators but we will have to cut their shop door, or whatever up in pieces small enough to fit into the aquarium. |
| From what I heard about the DL Fingerprints is only good if an LEO catches someone that is using a different persons actual ID and they can compare the person's fingerprints to the fingerprints on the DL and see if they match. From what I heard those fingerprints on DL's dont really go into any database, correct me if I'm wrong about that though. |
My goal here is simple. I want to know who did it. the guys who broke into my shop left these. 1 in the shop and 1 dropped his when they ran. I realize these are not court admisable evidence, but they are from the people who did the crime. I have had 4 burglaries now in 3 months this is starting to get old. I see your point and hope that you will see mine. I realize all crimes are not solved in an hour. Thanks,

The thing is, we couldn't give you the information even if we were able to run the prints somehow and get a match. Not without risking getting into HUGE trouble. Not worth the risk. I understand your disgust, but there is really nothing any of us can legally do for ya. I hate thieves so there's nothing I'd enjoy more than actually helping you track them down. Thieves are my favorite collars. I made five burglary arrests this past weekend. Three caught in the act (actually seven, but four ran and got away) and we tracked down two others shortly after they done several burglaries based on info obtained by a witness who watched them do one through his spotting scope. Recovered several thousand dollars worth of stuff. Made my month. So yeah, I'd help if I could, but there's nothing I can do for you in this case. Sorry. |

I hae a friend in atlanta that got his store broken into like 4 or 5 times, Thousands stolen every time. he just started coming in at odd times at night and he and a friend came in about 9 with a glock 9, a 12 guage and a 4d mag light.....Great timing,They saw the guy run around the corner, He was coming in through the roof and dropping down through the cieling in the bathroom, he didnt have time to climb through before he was snagged by the leg, he then put up a fight, Long story short, by the time the cops got there, they broke the synthetic stock of the 12 guage over his head and the mag light had to be replaced, But he was still fighting. They didnt just beat him down for the fun of it, They kept hitting him because he kept fighting them. Turns out he was a pcp junkie/crack head with an extensive record....He got 6 months probation, and had to go to drug treatment....again |
What city/county is your store located in? |
I was wishing he was looking through a rifle scope... and that he had pulled the trigger on both of them, dropping them in their tracks with the goods. Sad thing is though, he would have served time for that. The thieves will likely get probation for what they done. Shit just ain't right these days, ya know? Thieves should be free game... period. |
I see your point and hope that you will see mine. I realize all crimes are not solved in an hour. Thanks,
