Looks like a local allergic reaction to something. How long ago did it happen? I found it when I woke up yesterday Morning... As far as going to the Dr, Kooter doesn't think I should worry about it so until it becomes intense pain I am trying to hold off on running to the dr.... |

If it continues to get worse, the redness keeps spreading, drainage from the "bite", increased pain, numbness, or there is a halo/bullseye around the bite then a trip to the doctor is not out of the question.
Anaphylaxis is the biggest worry but you're well past that. Systemic reactions are the next biggest worry fever, chills, aches, cramps, etc. You're pretty much past those too. |

Anaphylaxis is not to much of a worry for me, I HAVE to carry two epi-pens around with me at all times. It would just be the jabbing myself in the thigh that would suck out loud! I have noticed this afternoon that around the red "bite" itself is a different color than the rest of the red ring.... |

I had a local allergic reaction to a wasp sting last summer that looked very much like your picture. A red area around the sting site. Intense and I mean intense itching and painful on top of that. Took a week to go away. If it's a histamine reaction maybe a Benadryl or two could relieve it some. I don't think it could hurt. |

Judging from the fact you found it yesterday morning and it's not a snake bite you should be good... There are only a handful of insects that will kill you in this state and most of those do it in the first 24-36 hours... However... If withing this time frame you've gotten a blister and it pops then you were bitten by a hobospider (we supposedly don't have brown recluses) it should scab in the first few weeks and shouldn't spread... however you say you carry a epi pen so I assume you have allergies of some kind, if they are insect allergies pay a visit to your doctor cause it may get worst. You should wash the area w. antiseptic wipes and just put some benadryl spray on it, and you should be good. But if it starts to blister/cyst go to the doctor. |

Looks like you've had a lot of good advice already given...Benadryl (and keeping an eye on it for the bullseye changes) is the way to go.
I've heard recently from a friend that white vinegar will remove the itch and help it heal faster, my family always used a baking soda and water paste, but that's messy. Next bite I get I'll be trying the vinegar(btw, spider bites look like that on me as well... Hope you heal quickly! |
| looks like a bite to me. The thing thing that I would be worried about is a secondary infection. I have seen infections recently related to insect bites. Keep the site clean, and watch for an increase in redness, swelling and drainage. If the "core" (the darker red part at the center) gets bigger, go see a Doc. in the hospital we are using hypertonic dressings on wounds these days. That is related to the baking soda treatment mentioned above. But instead of baking soda the tissue is of a high salt content. that causes the inner contents to move toward the salt due to water in your body being attracted to the salt (osmosis). So instead of the "venom" moving into the body, is would be flushed out with the movement of water or plasma toward the surface of the skin. I am not sure about a baking soda "poultice" because of the high alkalinity of baking soda. The surface of the skin is generally acidic which is part of skin immunity. I am not sure how a highly alkaline poultice would effect the area, and if it would help or hinder the bite. Benadryl is a great anti itch agent, and anti inflammatory, but I wonder if it is a drug that gets over used. If your body is mounting an appropriate immune response do you want to hinder that response? But people use it and it works so 6 of 1 1/2 dozen of another. I would watch it for real infection as opposed to an inflammatory response, and if it seems to be infected, go get some antibiotics. The worst thing I have seen is a secondary MRSA infection, especially with HOBO spider bites, but it isn't a very common thing.. You are young, and it is nothing more that a "mere flesh wound." |

Ok, I gotta chime in here. The fact that it is warm to the touch, and the redness seems to keep growing larger, tells me that you should have headed to the doctor already.
I have had three, yes 3 leg infections that started off as a small wound like that on my calf and spread quite quickly (a couple days) to involve about 80% of the calf before I managed to get to the Dr. Hospital in 2 cases, walkin care in the third. All three put me on liquid antibiotics - the hospitals every 4 hours for three days, the walk in clinic every day for 5 days (or was it 7?, I don't remember). In all cases, it didn't hurt to walk (except the 1st time, when I waited the longest) but the redness was warm to the touch. It could be a staph infection or worse - go see a doc before the tissue starts necrotizing (dying) and get something to help fight it off. |

I showed it to Kooter today and he insists that it is getting better (still red, swollen, hot & painful, even though I tried the benedryl route last night) so I will wait until I am almost dead to go to the DR I guess so he can't label me a hypocondriac (it's not the same to think you have the illness and then PROVE that you do each time) then he can wait on me hand and foot after they have to chop a leg off....

Just like the time you thought you had MRSA? What is it Bubonic Plague this time?

It's a nipple you dumbasses.
Christ, it's been so long since I've seen one I forgot what they look like. Shit! It's a home cooked meal! Never mind, it has been so long since I've seen one of those also. Doesn't matter if it is a nipple or a home cooked meal, I'm going to masterbate to it. I can't remember, does she have a sense of humor or was it Hippy? Answered my own question, she is married to Kooter... Please pray for me, I can't stop when I get started. |

You should really take pictures of the area today and day to day while the symptoms are developing. If there is a ring around the center, like a bullseye, it might be Lyme bacteria infection due to a tick bite (very small tick, not very noticeable): http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/786767-overview Lyme disease can cause multiple long-term effects that appear as if unrelated to each other and make diagnosis difficult. There are anti-biotics as meds for it. Here's how it would look like (I think you mentioned a ring around the center in one of your posts): ![]() ETA: I would've made a comment about the thigh in shorts ... but restrained myself ![]() |

My thoughts. Lyme disease is no fun. Had me down for 6 months back in the 90s. The last 30 days of it were confined to bed and had to crawl to the bathroom. |

Cuba has an awesome dental program. They use the leftover uranium from the missile crises and irradiate the cavities. |
