Actually, I need help FINDING ammo!  I just picked up a DPMS Oracle LR308.  I cannot locate any "plinking" ammo in Reno.  The cheapest I've seen is high end hunting stuff that is pushing $40.  The .308 shelves are empty.  This thing doesn't even have sights or optics yet and I just want to do the barrel break-in as indicated in the manual.  Blowing through 2 or 3 boxes of expensive ammo was not my plan.  Can't find any on line in the regular ammo spots either.  I could reload but the manual says no reloads or foreign ammo or warranty is out the door.  AARRGHH!  7.62NATO or .308 will be fine.

Why not shoot reloads... You know what goes into your reloads and as long as you take precautions to make sure every load is right you have no reason to think its going to fail anymore than factory ammo would unless your using brass that's been out through the ringer too many times. They always say not to use reloads, how are they going to know. I mean if a round blows up then I don't feel right telling the company a lie and saying I used factory ammo. However if a round blows up and hurts the gun then you would have to take a closer look at your reloading technique or the brass your using. I feel better using my reloads than factory cause I know I put that much more into every round than factory and I've never had a round fail to go bang with my reloads, factory I can't say that.

With that said your not going to find any cheap ammo around vary easy. I got a box of tulammo I can sell you for cost but your probably better running reloads than steel for break in.

Try www.gun-deals.com. It's user submitted info, and generally pretty up to date. Looks like the cheapest brass cased stuff out there is at PSA, and running $33/50 plus shipping. Have you tried posting up a WTB on the EE or on Reno4x4?

Don't worry about the warranty.  They are a joke anyway.  They just want
you to use ammo that they can defer financial liability to if something
bad happens.  They also prefer you use ammo from an American
manufacturer that has deeper pockets then them.

My AR10 bolt broke in half and Armalite replaced it.  They realized that
the foreign ammo really didn't cause the faulty heat treatment...

It has also been demonstrated that barrel "break in" has no measurable effect on accuracy or barrel life.

On the other hand, it might be wise to function check it before we have to bury them next month.

I found some Federal Powershok in 150 grain SP at the Walmart in Lemmon Valley and bought 5 boxes.  Hope that'll feed ok. They also had a bunch of Tulammo but it was steel case and I don't really want to do that to my new gun.  It was only about $6/box.  With the Federal, at least I'll have some brass for reloading.
