You have to remember this is a Mennonite University, Mennonites are strict pacifist.  Many have defied the draft and even counseled young men in how to duck the draft.  I doubt if you would want to be seen or caught carring a gun on campus.  Mennonites are folks who will use a gun to hunt, but anything to do with military or killing another human is verboten.  Many will give their lives other than take a life.  I know I come from a Mennonite background, one of my second cousins was the Chancollor of EMU a few years back. And no, I don't hold with that.  Having beenj in  the military and Vietnam.

Best policy is to ask the administration!  These folks are not unreasonable, they just have their beliefs which tend to be pacifist in nature.  The school has gotten a lot more liberal over the years, just how liberal it is now, I don't know, but I do think that I would ask in a case like this.  It could save some grief in the future.  Violence on the campus is almost unheard of.

I assume you assumed he was enrolling as a student.  For a situation like his or other similar situations, that is not what you should do do.  Get it in a school administrators (mall management, theater owners, etc.) head that there's going to be folks carrying and the next thing that happens is they will post notices banning guns.  Then instead of discreetly carrying concealed, you are either criminally trespassing or entering a gun-free-mass-murder-zone unarmed.

QCKA,

Ordinarily I would agree with you, however this is a totaly different culture.   I know I have cousins and had aunts and uncles who would not speak to me after I went in the Army back in 1963.  Those that did speak with me did so at risk from the rest of the family.  After Vietnam I was persona non grata.  These are totaly honest people, some do own firearms and hunt, but I doubt if you will find a handgun among them.  My Dad and Uncle served as avaiators in WWII, they were pilots prior to the war and served in the Navy.  After the war they rejoined the church and were accepted back in the fold.  I chose not to do so as I made a career out of the Miltary both active, reserve and as a civilian.   We also have an admirial in the family but that is another story.
