| Hey I have a friend whos ex-husband left a pistol at her house and I was wanting to know how I can check to make sure it is not stolen or been used in a crime. |

Take it to the local PD or SO and tell them what you just said here. Best bet is to leave it in the car and go talk to the desk SGT and find out how they want to handle it. DON'T walk in with it on you (you're probably smart enough, but I thought I should mention it anyway). Of course, if it comes back hot you won't be able to keep it. If it's the Jennings you were talking about in another thread it wouldn't be a great loss. BTW, if the girl who is in possession of it suspects that it is stolen or evidence in a crime, SHE needs to be the one who does all the talking with the police. You could give her a ride, but I wouldn't get much more involved than that. |
Bad ju-ju if he runs it and it comes back with a hit. Then he might have to justify why he was running the number when he didn't have the weapon in front of him. Some dept's may let this slide, but AFIK GCIC (State) takes a dim view of it. |
Yea if it was I would have givin it to the cop. No big deal. |

Is there a legitimate way for a regular citizen to run a check on a firearm? I have hessitated to buy used guns in the past not knowing for sure what their history was. The last thing I need is to have a "your papers please" stop turn into a felony arrest for pos. of a stolen firearm. |
Good question. Anyone know? Something like a CarFax (sp?) for guns would be cool. |
