Well, actually, my mother needs the help.  My parents live in Chapel Hill, and have expressed an interest in getting their CCL, but don't know how to go about it.  I'm still down here in Lousisana, so can't really help them much, but if any of you NC folks who know their way around the permiting process are willing to help, please PM or email me.

TIA

Have them call a local gun shop or sporting goods store to find out who offers the class locally.  Ask someone on the police/sheriff's department if that doesn't work.  Once you complete the class get the necessary paperwork from the sheriff's dept.  Fill out the paperwork along with a check (I don't remember the exact amount required.  Around $100)  and take it to the sheriff's dept along with the certificate from the CCW class and they should either fingerprint you there or have you come back on a certain day of the week when fingerprints are taken.  It takes anywhere from a few weeks to 90 days to get the call from the sheriff's dept letting you know the permit is ready for pick-up.
