My wife's Nissan Pathfinder needs new struts on the front. I want to DIY, but I've never done this before and was hoping someone with experience in mechanics in the area could lend a watchful eye while I do the work?
I pay in beer or gear... Thanks, Spoon |

very simple. go to autozone and rent their spring compressor. be careful and go slowly, and you can diy. i did mine on my 4runner, but had to replace mounts due to bad rust issues (bought a northern vehicle).
google around for pathfinder forums and i'm sure you can find a writeup on it. 4runners have their own forum clubs and there are tons of writeups on this kind of stuff. good luck! |
| If I still lived there I'd help. If I remember correctly(only lifted 2 or 3 of those over the years) You won't need compressor as it's a Mcpherson style and comes out in one unit. Jack up, install stands under driver door area of frame, Remove tie rods, brake line clips, and poss top ball joint. Remove bottom bolt, top 3 bolts. Insert BF pry bar, Pry down on bottom Arm and pull bottom of strut out of mount, then will fall out. Do one side at a time for reference purposes since it's your first. Put back with torque specs listed in chilton/haynes/factory manual. If I get up that way soon to visit wifes family I will message to see if you're done yet |
