So after months of trying to sell my Quad, I may finally have a buyer. A couple of items I am up in the air about:
1. Payment - Should I accept cash only? I know not to do personal checks...maybe cashiers check? Money order? 2. Title - I have the title in hand, Do I just give to him or transfer it? 3. Should a handwritten receipt with both our signatures suffice incase anything comes up? Is this necessary? This will be my first sale where a vehical, title, and pretty large sum of money will be involved, so I am a little on edge

- If anything seems off, walk away from the deal. - If your going to deal in cash, purchase a counterfeit money detector pen from an office supply store to test the paper. There is even a detector pen with an led built into the pen cap that helps enhance the security bar in the newer bills (the instructions also list what color the bar should be for each bill). You could also meet in your banks parking lot (during business hours) and do the deal there. This way if your given counterfeit bills, the transaction will probably be on camera and you'll know within minutes when you try to deposit the money... - Definitely get something in writing (bill of sale). If anything happens later on, it is just additional proof you sold the item in question. GL |

One more question. Me and my wife's name are on the title. Do we both need to sign it? Also we have since gotten married and the last name changed. Would this matter? Thanks again. You would both need to sign. Not sure about last name change, but I'm assuming she took your name so why not just have her put first, maiden, married to cover all bases? But she could always sign the name to match title. Which leads to the bigger question - why would a girlfriend co-sign on a toy? You must have some great attributes. |

Cash Only. Sign the title over to him. Instructions on how to do this I believe are on the title itself. A receipt with both buyer and seller is a good idea but not required. Good Luck. as a side note to cash, makes sure you look at safety features on the bills. nowadays those counterfeit pens don't mean squat because the crooks are using real paper (off $1 bills) and bleaching them and reprinting higher denominations on them. the pen detector will not react to the paper since its real paper. im sure you can find the security features on the internet somewhere. a Secret Service agent told me the first thing they look for is the color shifting ink on the bottom right corner of the face of the bill. that is evidently the hardest security feature to defeat for counterfeiters. |
