Oregon, Here we come!

Oregonians, as a kid, I've lived in Pendleton and Portland, I remember very little of it. We're going somewhere, I don't know where, and I don't have any family left there, they all got old and croaked.

This said, We're in California. We're rabid republicans. Right wing all the way. I am a Harley Davidson riding retired soldier with lots of skill sets. Presently, I'm a barber. left living in our home out of all our brats is a rock and roll type 9 year old boy.

As far as work, I can do just about ANYTHING, I'm "okay" money wise. I'm plenty handy with a wrench, not too shabby with a hammer, I know my way around a computer very well, and I've even been known to be handy with networks. I'm the neighborhood handyman, never to proud to replace a sewer line for a buck, I've done it before. I build a mean wood fence. I hunt and I fish, if I can eat it, I'll shoot it. I've got guns and plan on keeping them too.

I look like hell, I've got a big beard, I have rough calloused hands as I love working with my hands. I'm as strong as an ox, I pick it up, I haul it, chop it, burn it, fix it, carry it, move it, shake it, pick it, pull it, run circles around it. I'm 46 years old.

My wife says I like to hang out with other men and talk about guns, fishing, hunting and Harley Davidson bikes. She says I am a bearded 12 year old.

My wife's 8 years younger and as cute as all can be, it might help you to know that I hit very hard. She's the nice one. She cooks, bakes, makes kool-ade type punch, sammiches, sews, sings off key, and looks pretty doing everything.

My boy, he's 9, he's rough, slays dragons, makes guns out of sticks and shoots at everything. Imaginary monsters don't have a chance. He's noisy too. He wears Harley Davidson tee shirts and has his own cut, he rides on the back of my bike. He's got big ears, goofy big teeth, talks a lot, has lots of questions, likes to fish and wants to shoot a deer. He finds change everywhere and likes to buy tools. He also loves legos, in a really big way.

As a neighbor, I am the ONLY one on my street that flies an American flag, I even have a light on it, ok, I lied, I fly 7 American flags, I like having the Mexicans down the street know I am an American and since they fly their Mexican flag on US soil, I fly my American flags on my property.
We're sick of California's stupid laws, and the last bout of legislative bullshit has us DONE, just absolutely DONE.

What we're looking for is a place that is about 2 bedrooms, has to have a front and back yard, I need a garage for all my tools and my bike. My wife's truck can stay outside. We want lakes and rivers near by, it wouldn't hurt to be within an hour of the ocean too. I hold a NAUI Instructor's credential, I wouldn't mind using it from time to time. I like trees, a lot. I don't care what kind. I am so/so with snow. I live in an area that gets snow now. We want to carry our damn guns without being hassled. That means we give some government tool money, he gives us a carry permit, we load up and go about our business. We like to shoot, living somewhere we can do that is a must. I don't like the desert and neither does my wife. I'm not ready to buy a house "right now", ideal rent is no more than $875.00 a month. We have a dog, a border collie. He's one of us, so, we're not giving up the "dag". I HATE CATS. I don't make an apology for this. Damn things make me sneeze and always want to rub their face in mine. Stupid things. I like to Barbecue, even in the snow, so, you now how I like to eat. I'm kind of chubby, which means I really like to eat. Wife's skinny though, she looks good that way while making a sammich for me.

Friends, we have a few, to the one's we have, we're very loyal to. I'll kick someone's ass for a friend and a neighbor.

So, who wants to be my neighbor? Tell me about the neighborhood. I need a good recon scout.

Newberg-McMinnville areas sound good for you. About an hour to the coast. Lot's of outdoor opportunities near by. Folks aren't too liberal. Affordable housing. Tri-county gun club, probably the best/biggest gun club in Oregon is nearby in Sherwood. Lot's of scenic rides for your Harley. Seems to meet your criteria.

I live nearby and after living in a small conservative town I can stomach the area so it must be ok.

Just come straight to Sherwood. It's good here. The house down the street from me has been empty for awhile.

Sherwood needs more people like you to counter-balance the rest of Washington County (read: Hillsburrito and Beaverton).

Maybe then we can kick Bonamici out of office.  What a dipshit.

Oh, stay out of Yamhill county.

Jobs are more plentiful in areas surrounding Portland, but you also have to deal with a higher (liberal) population. Tri-County Gun Club is maxed out on members though isn't it? ARPC near Albany is accepting new members, I don't think ARPC has ever hit the max limit of members. ARPC has plans in the works for a 400, 600 and 1000 yard rifle range. Albany and Lebanon areas are conservative, politically speaking, and less populated Salem area is 1 hour and 20 minutes away from the ocean and Bend Oregon is about the same distance to the East. Eugene is about 1 hour South and Portland 1 hour North. Jobs in Salem, probably not so good unless you work for the govt.

Tri-County is maxed on membership. Newberg Rifle and Pistol Club is 10 minutes the other direction from Sherwood. It's a basic 50ft indoor range. The price is right if all you want to do is slow fire target practice. $20/year back when I used to go there.

Shoot me an PM  and I will respond this evening after I'm off work.

I know "A Great Little Town" that has anything from badly neglected old houses on large lots to brand new houses on medium sized lots for sale. Its 15 minutes from the soggy mountains and 20 to 45 to most work.

So anyway, check out the Yamhill-Carlton area of Yamhill county. It's mostly rural, the towns of Yamhill and Carlton each have about 1500 people in them. McMinnville has around 30k and Newberg has about the same.

However, some things you should know:

The Y-C School district loves to propose taxes. This was not a problem until the last couple election cycles when the populations doubled due to an influx of the more urban liberals into the area. Now property taxes are fucked up. However, the real estate crash moved quite a few of them right back out and property values fell. There were a lot of walk aways and foreclosures around here for a while.

Property values stabilized and have begun climbing again and there seems to be fewer for sale signs the last year or two.

On the plus side it is not part of the Metro area officially so there a little less taxes than those goons prefer to levy. There was some talk of official overtures last ballot season though. I *think* there are still more than enough Yamhill county types to keep that at bay, but reinforcements would be kinda cool.

Most work around the area is however up in the metro area. That's just how it is since that's where al the commerce hubs are. Out here is 45 minutes from PDX, 45 minutes from Salem (if I didn't have family there I would have no reason to go there), 1 to 1.5 hours from the cascades or the coast. 15 minutes from here lays the Coast Range for hunting, target shooting, logging road get lost on, etc.

You get more for your money in small town Yamhill County than you do most places this close to the I-5 corridor.

Move to NW Portland 97229 area code, Rock Creek Neighborhood to be specific. Great schools. 1hr from beach. Next to HWY 26 which is the main HWY from the beach to the mountains. This is the place where people grew up as kids, and bought a house and stayed in the neighborhood. Lived here for 41yrs, thought about moving away just to try somewhere else and just bought another home here.

I wouldn't go to Portland,  they are so left wing it is funny in a weird sort of way. They just got rid of their gay supporting Mayor, but the new one is still up in the air where he stands, ran conservative, but leaning more liberal every day

But as for carry, great state, other then left wing liberal schools trying to change laws that the law makers, a bunch of Democrats too, made saying no changes can be made but by the legislation.

very little snow, been here almost 12 and only had snow really bad, a couple of times, most of the time it comes and melts off by a couple of days if that.

about an hour and half from the ocean.  a couple of great local diving areas.  Work my self out of a local dive ship, we make many trips up to Washington to dive in the Pac NW... (PADI certified Rescue, working on Dive Master)

Plenty of great gun shops,

Great radio talk host,  Lars Larson, admittedly Carries daily, and PROUD of it.

State Legislators, are democrat controlled, or just about even, but on gun control, generally any gun grabbing is shot down. Do have our "token" gun grabbing democrats" but we keep her and him in check most of the time.
