Planning on taking my non resident class in June.

The one thing I'm not fully clear on is the qualification.

If I understand it correctly you must qualify with the handgun you will be carrying. It's not a blanket coverage for say revolver or semi-auto.

Am I correct about this?

ETA: Cross post from "Carry Issues". and looks like I got the original question answered.

New question......How can you go about getting multiple registrations? Would I have to take multiple classes?

Thanks for any replies.

When you do your CCW class you can qualify with as many handguns as you have with you and your instructor or wallet will allow.

Others can be added by shooting at an approved range (does not have to be the same instructor etc) and paying $25 to the Sheriff each time you make a change (not each weapon)

soowah,

Nevada is gun specific. You can have as many handguns on your CCW permit as you want, but you must first qualify with each gun to be listed on the permit.

A single permit will list 12 handguns. Example: If you have 14 handguns, 12 will be on one permit and the other two will be listed on a second permit.

Handgun registration is required for each handgun to be listed on the permit. You can get that done at any Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Substation. You will receive a "Blue Card" for each handgun registered. The Blue Card must be carried with the CCW permit and proper ID, i.e. a valid Driver's License or State issued ID Card from this or any state.

If you have not committed to a particular course, I can get you squared away when you are ready. I also provide all my students applications for the states of Nevada, Utah and Florida, and the fingerprint cards for Utah and Florida. With all three permits you will be legal to carry in over 30 states.

If you forward me a contact number I will be happy to call you on my dime to answer any additional questions you may have.

Hope this helps.

Be Safe.

so, if i have (for example) three (or more) of the same make/model/caliber, do i need to qualify with each different gun, or just one?

the permit doesn't list the serial number(s), but the paperwork that's filed does.

Thank you very much Joe.

No, I have not committed to any place yet, but will be in Las Vegas for about a week for my birthday in June. I've seen you recommended a lot in this forum as the 'go to guy' and will definitely give you a ring.

I'm a Texas CHL holder and it's good for almost everywhere I go except Nevada. My wife and I have been taking quite a few trips to the Las Vegas area, 3x this year. Planning at least that many next year. A little more hassle getting through the airport, but we usually stay a min of 4-5 days when we travel anywhere.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone.

I had this problem come up.  I was told that I only needed to qualify with one, but that the actual CCW office needed all the serial numbers in their system -- something for which they did not require a reprinting of the actual card, and thus no additional fees.

Joe,

I had a similar question regarding Nevada.  I occasionally travel out that way for various ops out of Nellis AFB and cannot bring a pistol due to my NY and PA licenses not being recognized out there.  Not that I spend MUCH time out there or that I go looking for trouble, but let's face it, sometimes trouble will find you.

I'm amazed that you actually have to qualify on "each pistol" in order to carry it concealed.  Cripes, can you imagine if they did that with motor vehicles?  Also, will my pistol training in the Marine Corps qualify in Nevada as sufficient training?  Some states recognize military experience and waive the training req't.

Seeing how I live and am stationed on the east coast, is it possible to add pistols to one's Nevada license while out of state?

Thanks for your help.

Oh yeah... I'm really quite surprised at Nevada's methods... I had them figured for a more pro 2nd conservative state.

It depends on the Sheriff. The statute actually states that the training must have been given in Nevada by an approved trainer (approved by the Sheriff.)

Las Vegas may list the serial numbers on the permit, but I know Mineral Country does not.

We have to work a little harder to get our CCW's, but once we have them they are valid almost everywhere (except for obvious places like government buildings and airport terminals), and businesses can't put up signs invalidating our CCW's on their premises.

Only Clarkifornia county cares about serial numbers. Elsewhere the permit states make, model, and caliber, so any pistol of the same make, model and caliber will be OK.
