I do enough traveling that having a non-resident Florida permit would make a lot of sense. Plus, I just heard they extended the expiration from 2 years to 7, so it seems like a good time to seek one out. Is anyone aware of classes in northern IN for the Florida CCL? My brother has attended them in Illinois, so I know they are out there, but my Google foo is drawing blanks. Any help would be much appreciated. Sam |

Did you have an NRA class, hunter safety class, or a DD214? Any of those qualify for FL. No, none of those actually. After reading the requirements online I contacted the Florida Department of Agriculture, Licensing Division. I have an ILEA (Indiana Law Enforcement Academy) instructor certification which they told me they would recognize. I then told them I taught a basic gun safety class and they told me that class would satisfy their requirement for the out of state permit. I asked if they needed to see my cirriculum and was told no. The student that inquired, which led me to contact Florida, has taken the class but has not yet applied for his out of state permit (I just checked with him) so I can only go by what I was told via email. ETA: I misunderstood your reply, I thought you were asking me, not the OP. OP, if you want to read the requirements for Floride you can find them here: Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License Application |

My name is Tobin Babcock. I am owner and lead instructor of Tyr 1 Training Corporation. As Hayden stated above we do offer classes in northwest Indiana. All of my handgun classes fall in the requirements of the FL CCL requirement and I have done the required paperwork for several successful recipients. I meet their requirement by being certified by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board (they are the governing body of standards for law enforcement in Indiana and certify instructors for the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy). If you would like to discuss your options for receiving the required training and to hear what we have to offer feel free to contact me by phone at 219-369-3733 or by email at [email protected]. Regardless of where you receive your training I wish you luck and success in your search for knowledge and skill in relation to firearms.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess I was under the impression that there were one-stop classes available that would help with the paperwork/finger prints, but I think I was mistaken. Anyway, I plan on getting the application packet started soon, and then I'm sure I'll hit one of the mentioned classes. Thanks again guys, Sam |
