For those who have been living under a rock we have a contested race for Sheriff comming up in June.

There are three candidates

Appointed Sheriff Sandra Hutchens: She retired from LA County Sheriff's Department where she was involved in a controversial shooting. She was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to fill the vacant seat. She immediately upset the progun community by threatening to revoke current CCW permits that she believed were issued as political favors. Including the permit of Mike Schroeder, the most powerful republican in the county. She then proceeded to remodel OCSD into an LAPD like agency. She considers the restructuring to be bringing the department up to date with modern policing. But the cops and citizens in Orange County see it as trying to turn their friendly conservative local cops into something out of the LAPD playbook.

Retired Lt. Bill Hunt: Has decades of experiance in all aspects of OCSD. Is loved by the troops and the citizens of the cities he patrolled. Was forced into retirement when he ran against the corrupt former Sheriff and narrowly lost. Has stated he will accept self defense as good cause and issue CCW permits to anyone who is not prohibited by state law. Was endorced by the Deputies Union and John Lott.  Has some baggage from being associated with Sheriff Joe and the Oathkeepers.

Anaheim Deputy Chief Craig Hunter:  Runs the day to day operations of a medium sized city police department. Has no experiance in OCSD. Is supported by the aformentioned Mike Schroeder as well as those who lost their CCW permits. Says he will issue CCW permits to anyone with "good cause" but that self defense alone is not a sufficient good cause statement. Has some baggage due to lost handguns, controversial shootings and beatings in his current agency. As well as associations with the same poitical party kingmakers responsible for the last corrupt Sheriff.  Some citizens fear he will make remake OCSD into a larger version of his current agency.  Many Anaheim police officers are hoping Hunter wins.

My prediction is no candidate will receive the 50% plus one vote required to win in June. Resulting in a November run off between the top two vote getters. Likely Hutchens Vs. Hunt in November as the voters county wide know them with Hunter being an unknown outside of Anaheim.

My wife wants a CCW permit and will likely be voting for Hunt.
