How often should OC spray be replaced?

My guess is it depends on the manufacturer. They should be able to tell you or check their website.

I hear Fox is the best, I got some for my sister.

Try it on Mr. Monk and ask him if it needs replacing?

All pepper spray products use a nitrogen,CO2 or Freon propellant which is nonflammable and provides a consistent and reliable spray pattern for years and in a wide range of temperatures. These products are freshly made continuously and have not been sitting around in a warehouse for months. We warranty to replace these products ourselves for 1 year but actual shelf life is much longer, around 4 to 5 years(may be less for 1/2 oz. units due to its small size and small amount of propellant). The OC spray does not deteriorate like tear gas. It is only the pressurization of the propellant which declines over time. (molecules of propellant leak past the seals over time) Test spray your pepper spray a couple of times a year to make sure its operating properly and has not lost pressure.

I thought about that but decided I'd save that experience for when I really want to get my point across  Besides, I am hoping to make the time between now and his deployment as harmonious as possible

Thanks for the info and link. I'm good to go then.

Most all are good for 3-5yrs, but to be honest I found an old can today manufactured back in 1999-trust me, it worked quite well
The biggest thing towards making sure that its effective is to be sure to shake it daily....

Are there any legalities about carrying CS vs. OC? A friend of mine had some Sabre CS that we played with. It was fierce. If I were carrying, I want the most potent. My understanding is that CS is more potent than OC, no?

I thought CN was the agent known for being flammable?

Bill, I can eat CS for breakfast, it can be uncomfortable in big enough exposures, but the effects wear off quickly and you'll be seeing clearly and breathing normally within a minute or so of being exposed to fresh air. You might burn a little where the CS granules settle on your clothes and in sweaty areas, but thats about it.
I cannot stand OC. The effects last longer and while you might be able to breathe ok after getting in fresh air, your eyes will burn like a mofo for a lot longer than CS. The skin irritation is much longer too and only gets worse when you get in a hot shower later. I can't stand it so bad, I won't carry it at work and anybody who sprays it around me is bound to get a beat down. Think about it, the person isn't being compliant as it is. OC almost never makes the non-compliant roll over and go to jail, so you end up fighting them anyway-which means that it's now all over you and soon to be all over the back of your car.
