First off, this is a partial cross post from the Pennsylvania hometown forum.
Anyways, in the near future, at an unknown point it time, I anticipate moving from Ohio to Pennsylvania. I understand that Ohio and Pennsylvania have reciprocity. My question is, if I have a CCW permit issued to me in Ohio and I change my state of residence from Ohio to Pennsylvania, will my permit still be valid as long as I update my mailing address? Or would I be better off waiting until after I relocate to acquire a carry permit? |

I can't remember how long it is to "establish residency" in Pennsylvania after moving there. However, once you've been there long enough to established residency go get your PA ID and then CHL. I always tell people it takes "20 dollars and 20 minutes" to get a permit in PA. It may actually be a few more bucks than that, since it's been a few years since I held a resident permit there. There is no formal training required.
Rereading your question I want to make sure you know that once you're a PA resident you will need a PA permit. You can not keep your Ohio resident permit (as you will no longer reside here) and simply have a PA address on the OH permit. Side note: PA does issue non-resident permits. Ohio will only issue non-resident permits to those who live outside of the state but work in Ohio. Your mileage may vary. I am not a lawyer! |
| Been a while since I looked into it but AFAIK there is no provision in the law that invalidates you OH CHL by moving out of state. When you update your address do it via certified mail. They may ask for you to turn in your CHL but have no legal way of actually voiding it. I would also get the PA non resident now if you can and when you gain PA residency get the resident license. |
