'Looking for suggestions re. setting up a one or two day groundhog shooting expedition...
'Would like to be able to arrange permission/access to farm land ahead of time... 'Any suggestons re. the best areas of Ohio for this type of huntin'/shootin'..? If anyone has property they'd be willing to let a couple guys shoot on or perhaps knows someone who would be open to the idea... Pls. message me. 'Have experience here at home, but from what I've seen Ohio appears to be a more target rich enviroment. |
| I would google Ohio groundhog hunting, there was a guy up around Mansfield that provided guided hunts a few years ago, he promised X amount of shots per day etc etc, Mansfield is about a hour north of Columbus, not sure how much luck you will have finding farmers letting you hunt there property. |

Don't know if you're set on a particular part of the state, but I would get on the Ohio Dep't of Natural Resources website- dnr.state.oh. The state is divided geographically into districts. Pick one and start calling the county game officers and explain what you're trying to do. They're the boots on the ground and know the local landowners. |

To be honest I thought the $300 was crazy, but it was the only way that I knew for sure he could come down and be assured to hunt, some landowners are not to quick to let people hunt. Quoted:
$1000 a day is insane. Quoted:

I'd probably pay $300 for a day...If it could cover say 2-3 guys. I mean I pay more than that to attend other types shooting so... I'd look at it as paying for recon and having someone on side who knows the lay of the land and where the nearest Starbucks is. |

I started hunting them in the late 80s and back then you would very rarely see other hunters, by the mid 90s or so I started to see more and more hunters, one of the reasons I believe numbers have dwindled in certain areas. Quoted:
Wow never thought hunting whistle pigs would go main stream. |

A few of you know my personal feelings on shooting ground hogs and why, but for $1000/day, I'd consider raising a hundred more as bottle fed targets !! |

What are your personal feelings on shooting groundhogs? I certainly wouldn't claim anyone else should feel how I do, I know the havoc they can wreak on a farm, but I haven't shot one since I was about 8 or 9. Long story short, I "found" a baby ground hog, didn't even have it's eyes open yet. Raised him "Charlie" for a year in the house. Had to let him go as he would chew through anything and everything and ate all of mom's house plants more than once. Pretty cool little pet. Anyone who's had a pet raccoon would know what I mean. I don't think my dad has shot one since either. After Charlie, all of them in the field were "safe" any that got in the garden repeatedly were caught in a live catch and relocated. BTW, I know you are ALL curious, yes, groundhogs like chocolate ice cream. |
