I am visiting family in northern CA next weekend. I wanted to bring my 870 with me but want to make sure it is legal in CA.
Main reason I want to take it is my family in CA wants to shoot it, but they don't even know if it is GTG. It is an 870 with standard stocks (no pistol grips), 2 shot extension for 6 + 1, it has screw in chokes and a IC choke in it(no muzzle brake) It will be in a soft case unloaded in my hard covered pick-up bed. Should I be GTG? Or should I pepper my angus? Thanks for an help! |

Ammo will be in the cab with me. I am full time Leo in NV just want to follow all ca laws with the long gun. Will be carrying my duty weapon with me it's a hk45 and already know that it is gtg.
You wouldn't believe how many Leo's in my state don't know about ca weapon laws ( including me to some extant) a lot of them carry their duty guns with full cap mags thinking they are good when it is technically a no no. |

The shotgun is fine, unloaded, even unlocked. Locked under the cover is fine (but not very secure). Keep the ammo where you want.
The handgun situation needs more careful review. No concealed carry; handgun not allowed in the passenger compartment of the car; handgun must be unloaded and in a locked container; no mags over 10 rounds is the law. Whether there's an exemption to any of those for out-of-State LEO, I do not know. I think not. |

No there is under Leosa. I am still able to cc under my badge. Over 10 rd mags are a no go, but my gun is a 10 + 1 anyways.
Also no threaded barrels etc. A lot of my guys don't do the research and carry their hi caps. I try to tell them but they don't listen. Oh well. |

There's a thread tacked to the top of the forum with the relevant CA DOJ travel restrictions. |
