This is the second time this year that a cop's gun has "accidentally" gone off and hit a child. From 1010wins.com: No Charges in Accidental Shooting of Cop's Son DEPTFORD, N.J. (AP) -- No criminal charges will be filed in the case of two off-duty police officers in Deptford Township who were cleaning their guns when one of the weapons went off, striking an officer's 2-year-old son. The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office found that Officer Michael Riggs was negligent in the way he handled his weapon, but said his actions did not rise to the level of a crime. The bullet wounded the son of Officer Wayne Muhlbaier on April 17. The child was struck in the jaw and underwent surgery, but has since been released from the hospital. Authorities say Riggs, who had been drinking, was not legally drunk. He has been suspended without pay. |

Were as any one of us would have been charged with a crime and had our children and firearms taken away. What else is new? I assume he did have his firearm taken away though since he is on unpaid suspension. Seems like he may loose his job unlike the NYPD officer. |
