I am all for peacefull protest, but do you have to go in tore up fishnet stockings, carrying a shotgun like you are marching in the revolutionary war? Come on people, don't further the stereotyping we already receive. |

Let me know when the next march is, fishnets, tattoos, burquas - its all good. We are all in it for the same cause. This is kinda what I was thinking. Could she have suited up a little differently for this? Sure she could but my thought of her when I saw this in the news is that she is not the person you would expect to see at said event. Please excuse my stereotyping here but it gets gets done to us. You would expect the guy who looks like he's on his way to TMS or Billy Bob's but not the girl on her way to Deep Ellum. I think that was at least a minor coup for our side. The news just showed us as being more diverse than a bunch of rednecks. I know gun owners at large span many groups and/or classifications but in the media it is usually less than positive. Fishnets with the Revolutionary War carry I think is a minor win for our side. My first thought when I saw her carrying like that was the RW scene/painting with the drummer, wounded soldier and flag bearer. I say lets find her and at least hook her up with a good sling for the next event. That looked like a bummer. Walking through the woods on the hunt is ok slingless but not marching through town as she did. Jester |

For example, I saw the guy cradling his AR almost like a baby and my thought was, "Sling that thing!" As for dress code, I say go as you are and be yourself. I have no problem with a punk rocker marching next to a cowboy and a guy in a business suit. |

I think they mentioned on the news carrying straight up or down, great idea so as not to seem threatening. I live in a "what if" world at work so its always ticking up there so flame me if overboard. I'm assuming here also. Lets say the ladies, or even some of the gents, aren't as experienced with long arms and carrying. They see a bee, wasp, hornet, chupacabra, etc and freak out. My what if here is a dropped weapon which in the grand scheme of things wouldn't be bad except for damage to the finish and stocks but it would look bad if it was videoed or someone interviewed mentioned it. Would it not also impart a higher degree of professionalism? Please don't misunderstand that as to say I'm berating them, I think this was a good thing but could have used a little polishing. I'm not even picking on fishnets and her shotgun, but wouldn't a slung arm have looked better? Who knows, her attire may have taken more flak if that distraction was gone. Maybe I've gone too far in becoming my Dad. Jester |

I just don't know about making it mandatory because it seems like the last thing we need is another rule or regulation for the good guys. On the other hand even a temporary "sling" can be rigged up out of anything, i.e., string, paracord, shoelaces, guitar strap, etc. (What's it matter if it's just for a few hours.) All I know is that if I'm walking around town peacefully, with no need or intention of firing my weapon, I'm most definitely slingin' it, if for no other reason than that it keeps my hands free for carrying a Coke and waving. |
