I was just reading in general about open carry in the post office. Is this legal? Can you carry in a bank (I have always thought you cannot carry in the PO or a bank)?
Can someone make a definitive list of places you can carry legally in GA? The law is jibberish to me. DKing????? |

Post offices are a strict no-no according to federal law.
There has been some new precedence set in Georgia about being stopped for carrying a weapon but I'll let a REAL legal eagle expand on that. My understanding is that it makes open carry a moot point, but I was never an advocate for it in the first place.. I'm too sneaky. |

Quoted:
open carry in a bank is OK open carry (or any type) in a federal building (post) is a NO NO I'm not so sure it'd be a wise choise to open carry a firearm into a bank... think about that for a moment. Rights come with responsibility and scaring the shit out of the employees, customers, and potential security guard is not worth it. |

I know it is not illegal, but if they see it, they will tell you to leave (Wachovias). |

To make a super long story somehwhat short, i was the general manager of a parts store on canton road (chris at semper fi actually came in once). I take my deposits to wachovia and always carry there, and i OC pretty much 99.9% of the time in the summer. One time i went in, the "customer service lady" said ...and i quote " Whoooooooaaa. You can't have a gun in here, its against federal law.' i said..."excuse me?" she said "my husband is a cop, so i know the law" i said "well ma'am you and your husband are mistaken, it is not against any law in this state, especiall federal law" I then proceeded to walk out, lock my gun in the car and come back in and took care of my buisness. Some jerk-off at "the gun store that shall not be named" found out that it was ME that did that, and went Coo-koo on me in front of customers in the store yelling at me making me look like a complete idiot for open carrying a gun. He said that i was arguing with her and i refused to leave...i wanted to ask him if he was there hiding in the bathroom, but i just left. The fat guy at the store even said this on the phone to me when i called to complain about Eric's behavoir "its not illegal for me to wear a Nazi uniform and walk up and down the streets, but you dont see me doing it "
So now everyone knows me as the "guy who was OC in a bank and started flipping his shit' because of what that guy at the gun store said in front of all the customers. (gun store is Nicks/Ed's) SOoooooooo thats the story. I was polite, i left, and simply informed the lady that she was wrong about there being "a federal law against carrying weapons in a bank" PHEW! now im going back to bubbleguinea OPSEC mode FWIW- I carry OC in the BOA all the time...even carried in there when i set up my checking account. The guy even asked me how i was able to carry in a bank, and told him about the GFL and all that. He said he has a glock but just keeps it under his seat in his car, but now that he can get his gfl he is going to carry to work (kennesaw branch)

any building that is owned by the government federal, state, city is a no no. (no carry allowed period)
as far as a bank goes just conceal it dont be billy badass with a gun you are going to scare little old ladies not to mention you will be the first target for a robber ! if they dont know you have a gun they will think you are another pushover but really you will catch them off guard. |

I have two friends that are cops in Atlanta suburbs. Both learned from me that OC is legal in Georgia with a GFL. Since they didn't know that, and they are very knowledgable cops, that made me realize that OC would be more trouble than it is worth.
I like my gun out of sight. If it prints on my shirt, I usually wear a baggier shirt, or change guns out for something smaller in the summer. That is just my preference, and for all those that OC, I respect that as well. |

In cases like banks and other sensitive areas this is where concealed carry comes into play, IMHO. I got no worries about OC and certainly ain't shy about it but the bank is one area I just foresee issues that s30 had. But you've got people with stacks of cash in hand or payroll checks and so forth so I'd like to know they're responsible enough with a gun in their hands and proective of their own business (and employees).
