I have a bottle of Makers Mark that I want to take to an event for other people to drink.  It is opened.  Is there any legal way to transport it (i.e. in the trunk?)

Thanks.

The statute prohibits "possession" in a motor vehicle.  I think a prosecutor would have a hard time getting a conviction if you had it in the trunk of your car on the way to a party.  Practically speaking, unless you were doing something really wrong or stupid, I can't see a situation in which a cop would hassle you about bringing a bottle of liquor to a party in your car.

+1, if it's in the trunk, I don't see a problem.

If you are really paranoid cover the cap in wax.

In the trunk would be fine.  I know that you can take home a opened bottle of wine from a restaurant.  I am not sure how the seal it it make it legal.  Have to look into that one.

Unless your trunk has a glass lid there is no way anyone can see inside it anyway.

Policeman:  "Mind if I search your car and trunk?"

You:  "Yes.  You do NOT  have my permission to search."

Policeman:  "Something to hide?"

You:  [No answer.]
