What would you suggest as an optic for Rabbits, Coyotes, possible SHTF? I have been looking at the EOTECH, Trijicon ACOG & Accupoint. I want something with a little magnification which the Trijicon optics have, but then again I can always mount an Aimpoint 3x behind the eotech and maybe even one day mount a PVS-14 behind it and actually use the NV feature of the 552. So what do you suggest........? Thanks all.

I went with just the plain ol' EOTech 512. I don't have night vision and probably never will. I have looked through a couple ACOGs and they were neat and all, but too expensive for me. Never handled an Aimpoint so I can't say anything about them. I like the EOTech because it's fast and easy. If we ever get a bunny shoot up and going again, I will be blasting them with my EOTech on top of my M16A4gery.

But to each his own. YMMV...

Yeah I have a couple ACOG NSN's there pretty nice. I keep looking to get rid of one and switch over to an Aimpoint M2 or 3 with a 3x mag.

I havent used a the EO's to much but would like to pick one up at some point. Plus they look intresting with the Aimpoint 3x mag on them.

It is a bit of a choice on wich way to go cause if you want it for hunting your going to want the magnification. Either way if you want an ACOG Aimpoint or EO and the 3x mag your pretty much all in the same price range.

If you can try out other peoples set ups and see what you like the most.

I havent seen one in person or know how much they cost but there is the Elcan Specter DR. That can switch from 1x to 4x mag. Here is the link.

They look pretty cool. Probley pricey though.

It's been years since I've gone out for Jacks or coyotes, but when I did I just used irons and never had a problem.

The red dot allows for faster target acquisition and is more than enough for ranges under 200 meters.  So to me if you intend on kicking them up whether it be by foot or vehicle, I'd go with a red dot. Now if you intend on sitting on top of some hill all day and waiting for something to cross your path then you may want a magnified optic if you feel the engagement distance requires it, since  rabbits and coyotes are extremely hard to see at long range unless they are moving and/or you are sitting waiting for them.

ETA If you are asking what is the best red dot type optic thats a matter of personal opinion.  I've used both the Eotech and Aimpoint, I'm currently using an Eotech but will most likely buy an aimpoint in this group buy just for the hell of it..  I have nothing against Acog, played with them at Shot and was very impressed but have never had trigger time with one so won't say whether I feel it's a better deal for the $$..

I love my 4x ACOG!  It's awesome, especially for calling in the early morning and late evening.

FYI, bunny hunting at night with an ACOG really sucks.  The ACOG reticle illumination is tritium, and on some models, fiber-optic.  I have a TA31F with the chevron reticle and fiber-optic for daytime illumination.  At night, using a spotlight, there isn't light for the fiber-optic and the white light on the target washes out the tritium, leaving you with a thin, black reticle.  That is really tough to put on the mottled hide of a jack in the brush.

If you are using a white light illumination, definately go with a red-dot like the eotech or aimpoint.
