I am an Alaskan Resident currently visiting my parents in Ohio. In Alaska, we do not need a permit to carry concealed...or open for that matter. So I never went and got a permit, I just carried. I am not going to mess around and not carry concealed without the permit in Ohio. However, can I open carry without any problems? Also, are there any special regulations as far as having loaded weapons in your POV? I plan on visiting the range a few times while I am here.
Thanks for any answers and responses. |

Yes you can open carry legally in Ohio 1b. "without any problems?" Is going to depend a lot on where you open carry. The more rural you are the less problems you could encounter. It tends to be a contentious/heated debate. Some say you are exercising your right, some say you are looking for trouble. 2. Do not have a loaded weapon in your vehicle. Loaded mags are ok, not inserted into the mag well. Enjoy your visit. |

I think there are some restrictions on how you can carry loaded mags in your vehicle if you don't have a CHL. Something like, they have to be in an enclosure or something. I'm too lazy to look up the ORC, but I seem to remember it from somewhere. |

To transport firearms they must be unloaded, cased or in plain sight and the actions open. Magazines (if applicable) must be stored separately in their own containers or empty.
Open carry is illegal in a vehicle (to include boats, busses, etc.) unless you have an Ohio CHL (or one recognized by Ohio). No way you're going to Open Carry unless you walk everywhere. You will have to clear and secure the pistol before getting into any vehicle and go thru the opposite drill when you leave. Concealed carry is just that concealed. How would anyone know unless you were behaving like a Alfa Hotel or drunk? You can not drink intoxicating beverages while carrying. I'm sure you'll be politely asked to leave many (maybe most) nice restaurants if you attempt Open Carry.. Since you're not licensed you have no obligation to "inform" police during traffic stops. Open Carry is constitutionally protected in Ohio but is rare. -- Chuck |
