Just purchased an older style pre-ban PWA Commando privately for a very good price. She’s in decent shape, light rust on the compensator and barrel. A little ware and tear on the rest, but in great shape otherwise. Being my second AR now, first being a new Eagle Arms E15A4B, I’m looking forward to putting it through the paces. Fired 5 rounds though it before I got down to really cleaning it. Last round jammed on me, possibly a double feed, mag might have been the problem. I’m not familiar with PWA, I heard it was an old company that got bought out or something. I never heard of PWA before, so I’m just curious about PWA AR’s? Any of you got any info on my new baby? |

Sorry, I'm fairly new to AR's myself. You may get better responses in the AR-15 Forum. You will get many, many more views of your topic, there (and answers). But, if you want to discuss happenings in Ohio, or find out about get togethers in northern Ohio or southern Ohio, this is the place to be. Welcome to the site, and the addiction. |

If you are using a carbine length barrel, you may have a failure to extract. Carbines can be real finicky about ammo. I have had problems with handloads that run fine through my 20". Commercial ammo usually runs ok, but there are several things that you need to be aware of: The gas pressure is much higher in a carbine, 20-22KSI vs 12KSI in a rifle due to the bleedoff being substantially nearer to the chamber. Consequently, the extraction is much more violent and occurs before the brass has had a chance to shrink away from the chamber. The extractor reportedly "bounces" early in the process sometimes allowing it to ride over the rim of the cartridge. I had attributed the problem to a rough chamber until I experienced the same problem with my 2nd 16" carbine. There is an extensive discussion in the AR-15 forum that discusses this phenomenon. There are a few things that I did to alleviate the problem: Polished the chamber. Buffer weight - I increased the weight of my buffer to 5.8 OZ. The additional inertia helps to lengthen the time that the fired cartridge is in the chamber and allows time for the case to shrink. (Both of my carbines use the full length buttstock) Extractor spring - I installed a Wolf Heavy Duty extractor spring. When you do this, be certain that the ejector spring is stiff enough to throw the empty case out of the bolt - I had to clip about 1/2 coil from my extractor spring. Watch any reloads. Even though I was loading to specs and there were no pressure indications, I suspect that the pressure is marginally high with the shorter barrels. My FTE rate was an occasional thing, but frequent enough to be a real irritation. I dropped 2 grains on my reloads and that seemed to take care of the problems. |

The upper dose not have any markings on it except where it is stamped 5.56. I fired 5 round through it before I really got to clean the chamber out. The mag was a 40 rounder I purchased with it, so I did not have time to get home and try out my good mags. When I shot the 5 rounds through it, every round extracted fine, but the last round somehow got jammed up before it was chambered. If and when I get a non-rainy day I’ll try it out again, hopefully I’ll not have any problems, but thanks for the tips. |

I am using a PWA lower with a 16" A1 Upper bought at Knob Creek. I use a Bushnell 1" Red Dot. It is pretty accurate and very enjoyable to shoot. The finish is perfect on the receiver. AR Lowers for Sale at AR15.com and, PWA Stripped Receivers $ 110 |
This always cracks me up.You put a 40 round mag in your AK and ............suddenly........according to Ohio...........it is an unregistered machine gun?I wonder if ANYONE that has had a private attorney on retainer.......has ever been successfully prosecuted for this alone. |
Many states have limitations on magazine capacity. What do you think your chances would be of beating charges in New Jersey of California for violating their magazine capacity laws? Probably better than in Ohio since Ohio doesn't grandfather exisitng magazines of higher capacity. And it's not an "Unregistered machine gun" Ohio laws defines it as an "Automatic firearm". Call it symantics if you like but laws are based on specific definitions of words or phrases. |
