| I am currently living in North Carolina, but I am interested in a home in Patrick County near Stuart. Anyone local want to tell me about the area? Hunting, taxes, gunlaws? I live in Stokes County currently, so it is not that big of a move and I do know people in the area whom I will be asking as well. |

I don't know the area, but as for gun laws, I'm biased but I'd say VA is a bit better. No permit required to purchase firearms, shall issue CHP, no permit needed for OC, we do have that dumb 1 handgun a month law but having a CHP exempts you from it. One big difference is if a state of emergency is declared, your gun rights remain intact. |

IIRC they are in the rifle section of VA, but I have one hunted turkey there. Taxes in VA are better then NC for the most part. Lower sales tax for sure and I think income is lower. Gas is about 30 cents cheaper per gallon as well. I am about an hour from stuart in Danville, and have run with a couple EMS agencies there. Local Hospital is a bandaid station at best if that matters to you. Nice place to live IMHO, close to blue ridge parkway, and route 8 is a run drive. Roanoke isn't far away for better shopping, and floyd has alot to offer for a very short drive. Not much in the way of resturaunts, but there is a wally world....... |
| I am going to take the wife to look at it today. I tried to look up public hunting land in the area and had limited success doing so. VA's wildlife website is not as easy to use as NC's. We have been to Stuart a few times and found the one good mexican place and the coffee shop. I like the idea, but we shall see what the little lady thinks. |

That mexican place is fairly good in my opinion as well, and the Wendy's there is ok. That is about it as far as food goes. Martinsville isn't toooo far, but doesn't have alot of options either, but is better.
As far as plublic land I know they have like 5k acres in the fairystone farms park/reserve or whatever it is on the line of patrick and franklin county. Might be an option. It isn't listed in the following website pdf I found so it might be out of play. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/regulations/state-parks-hunting-opportunities.pdf |
