The Monk got this from someone and wanted me to post here (he's blocked at work  ) to see if ya'll had heard this, too.

My neighbor went today to renew his CC Permit and was told that he did it
just in time. As of July 1-st the new Georgia processing rules will issue no
automatic renewal of your permit. You will pay $44.00 instead of present $15
and they will conduct full GBI investigation of your background. The process
will take something between 4 to 12 weeks. So, if your license is about to
expire, I'd suggest you to renew it before July 1st.

Thanks

Have not heard this.............................has anyone else????

Mine is good until '08. Maybe I will start the renewal in '07 just to allow enough time.

I haven't heard anything about that as of yet.
Down here in Houston County they won't renew until it's within 30 days of the expiration date.

Now that I have thought about it (which usually occurs well after I make a comment), it makes sense.

This probably has a lot to do with correcting the Sales issue. It used to be that if you had a permit, you could make a purchase and immediate get the firearm w/o first undergoing a background check. This was because a permit holder had already undergone a background check in order to get the permit.

Non-permit holders had to wait until the background check before they could pick up their guns.

GA lost this ability because people were being convicted of crimes after receiving their permits, but were still buying guns without ever being checked again.

My best guess anyway.......................

That's exactly what I was thinking.  Sounds like they are trying to get back in Uncle Sugar's good graces.
