So I filled out the crap BS form, took it over to the locals, and am now waiting, 14 days later, still waiting, is this normal? From what I read they are supposed to have it back to you in 7 days. If not normal anything I can do about it other then sitting and waiting until they get around to it?
BTW, this is a small City (under 4k population), and dealing with City Police. |
The PD is probably wondering "what the hell is this s%."
Edit...... I guess both will take it. From BCA website Once you have completed the application, you must submit it to your local police chief or the local sheriff if the municipality you live in does not have a police department. (Note: if you are applying for the permit to transfer, the law enforcement agency has seven (7) days from the time it receives your application to notify you of its status.) The law enforcement agency will conduct a series of background-related checks to assure you meet the eligibility requirements established in state law. Once those checks are complete, a permit will be issued that is valid for one year and may be used to purchase a handgun statewide. |

Call over there and possibly stop by in person to inquire. The folks behind the counter are still human and can make mistakes. Especially in small departments. Friend of mine wanted to get her husband a handgun for a gift, before he ships to A-stan again. Dropped off the PTP in her small town PD (500 people in entire town I would guess). Month later, still hadn't heard from them. She asked me what to do, I said just stop by there. She did. Police Chief was working behind the counter, told her, "yeah, I got it right here. Was meaning to call and ask you if you had forgot about coming to get it." So, I suppose, some departments expect you to check on it yourself. |

In St. Louis, however we have a City PD. I've already given them the filled out form, its been 14 days since I dropped it off. Did you take the required training class from someone? They should have explained all this to you in class. IIRC your still supposed to go through sheriff. I dropped mine off at the virginia courthouse, sheriffs office is in the basement, had it approx 10 days later. ETA-missed where he replied it can be taken to either local city or sheriff. I always thought it was the sheriff that took care of them now, unless for emergency purposes where one was needed ASAP. I would go the the city PD find out if they still have it, if they do take it back and bring to sheriff's office, probably a lot easier than waiting for the local PD to send it out. I need new reading comprehension skills. I'm blaming it on Monday.

| I had a couple buddies in my little town have to wait over two weeks, probably closer to three for their permit to purchase. Another friend about the same amount of time when he turned his into the sheriffs office. For my permit to carry, it took 15 days from the same sheriff. In my town/county, it is well known that permits to purchase/carry are put on the back burner because a couple of the higher ups are against it. |
