I had to vote for him to keep Mr. Milktoast out but I can't believe he's not only the longest running Gov., but this huge state
can't come up with someone I actually want to vote for. |

A lot of the people who would make the best candidates won't run for elected office because they don't want to subject their private lives to the kind of crap the media and political opponents put that through. |

The time to get rid of Perry is in the primaries. Hutchison was terrible; I voted for Medina. Eliminate property tax? Sure that's probably not workable, but it gets people thinking and it offers Texans a different view on how things can be accomplished. But oh no...even here on arfcom HTF we saw plenty of members who said absolutely hell no on Medina and voted for Perry. Now I'm just waiting another couple years, monitoring HTF and see if these same members gripe and bitch about Perry and if they do, I'll be right there to bust their asses on it.
The other thing that pisses me off is the media. Give me a break, after the primaries earlier this year, we knew Perry was going to be re-elected. But oh no, the media started giving White all sorts of attention to make you think this piece of shit actually stood a chance of being elected. Get real. |

That biased, Socialist rag listed on the front page side by side columns where each stood on issues and it was so pro White - negative Perry you'd thought it was another left-wing politial ad, which it was. Thats why I come on here to get the real scoop. |

Actually I completely stand by what I said here... Medina didn't stand a chance in the primary. No matter what I did it was either going to be Perry or Hutchinson. By that I mean I don't have enough political influence or $$$ to contribute to have made a difference in the outcome of the primary. And I was right, she was a way distant 3rd. I voted for Perry in the primary because I thought he'd be better than Hutchinson just like I voted for Perry in the general election because I thought he'd be better than White. It is just common sense. I may not like everything Perry does over the next 4 years, but I'm sure it will be better than if White or even Hutchinson had been elected. Medina and Glass were seriously not even in contention, not even in someone's wildest pipe dream. |

I don't trust Gov Goodhair much, specifically because of the corridor. I have voted against him in the past - but this time I gave him my vote freely. I think he has grown up a bit from being Bush's pet. ––- Just wish we could have gotten rid of Dogget - but at least the rest of the nation help neuter him. |

Find one time I mentioned the property tax issue as an eliminating factor for Medina... Her biggest problem in terms of getting the nomination was the fact she was more or less a political unknown in the state. |
| OK, I'm no rocket scientist but either is Perry. The first lie to roll out of his mouth this term was saying he's not got his eye on Washington. He couldn't push the Trans Tex. Corridor through as a governor so if he has to become Pres. to shove that money maker up the pipe he will. |

I'm not posting this stuff to hold people's feet to the fire in regard to their feelings on the major issues earlier this year. No, I posted that list because I wanted to call those people out (and I see you're one of them, no offense) and make it known that I will watch if there's any griping or bitching about Perry in a couple of years from those same people. I'm not holding a grudge and I'm not pissed off because Medina lost; I'm trying to illustrate the bigger picture here and that is that yet again we're stuck with the same old guy who will sellout if there's enough dollar signs in it for him. And he will, you and I both know it. I mean this is the same guy who wanted to make certain vaccinations mandatory, to wanting to grab a bunch of people's land to use for toll roads to advocating for secession. Fuck, can this guy actually take a stand on something and actually mean it for once? Sure all of us here are pro-2nd and all and so it seems Gov. Rick is too; great but that only goes so far and there are plenty of larger issues to deal with. No, my greater goal here is to illustrate that this guy is not an ideal conservative candidate for governor of this great state and the best way to take him out is in the primaries. |

Now I'm uncertain if the toll proposal purplecheese is referring to is a new freeway to be built or an add-on to the existing one. For example I heard on the news the other day one of the proposals for I-35W was to add additional toll lanes to the freeway. Now that is something that would piss me off. |

The question relevant to the recent election is whether that sort of thing of adding toll lanes to existing freeways is being pushed by Perry, or whether it would be happening even if someone else was in the Governor's office. I never actually heard Bill White say he was against toll roads in general, even though he criticized the TTC specifically. Come to think of it, I can't say as I ever heard ANY of the major party candidates say flat out that they were Anti-Toll Road in general. If they did, I missed it. |

Interstate 820/I-183 was to be expanded in the early 90s to account for the boom in residents moving into the midcities areas of North Tarrant County. Road was to be completed by 1994, then 1996, then sometime 2000... then all the money for the project disappeared. Que Rick Perry and Cintra coming in and now bidding on making this expansion now all tolls (minus one or two free way lanes). From what I understood he had a vested interest in Cintra or some of his buddies he appointed to the TxDOT board, been a while so my mind is fuzzy any more. So now, if I want to go anywhere, it will either cost me even more of my time to put up with the huge amount of traffic that will end up in the free lanes unwilling to pay the tolls or cost me an arm or a leg to get anywhere quickly. |

Nevermind it was to be finished 20 years ago as a FREEway. Fuck the NTTA and all the toll bullshit going on. NTTA existed before the TTC proposal. I don't think the road you are talking about was even part of that proposed project. I'm no fan of toll roads, but I am not sure you can blame this one completely on Perry. Now, I'm not Perry fanboy, but to be fair, one can't blame on Perry on this. It fell in the watch either Ann Richards or G.W Bush who were governor at the time. In his shoe, if there's no more budget for construction at this 820/183, he could either: 1. Don't do anything, and as years to come, this area will become a parking lot during rush hours. 2. Having toll roads. Really, he can't win either way. |
