well it depends, compred to the S2 IS there were really no major changes to the S3 IS.

well i hope your not paying more then 350.00

itll make a nice point and shoot the higher the iso though the more noise on the pictures

I'm sure it's a very nice camera, but I would like something that is more convenient to carry around on a regular basis so that I would be more likely to have it when I wanted it.

Out of those two I'd pick the SD800IS for having less noise than the SD900 on images captured at ISO 400 and higher and for having a wider lens (28mm equivalent vs 37mm)

the sd's are ok but for everyday use the A series is more economical due to the use of AA batteries

the a570 is would be a nice choice compared to the sd 900 or sd800 is

$350 vs $5900 (1DmkIII ($4500) + 16-35/2.8($1400))

Out of curiosity, is there a protective case you can buy for a SD800 or SD900 that you never have to take off when shooting pictures?  GF drops her camera ALL the time.

The only protective housings I've seen for point and shoots are underwater housing, most of them are model specific and start at $150 and go up to well over the cost of the cameras. They really aren't designed to handle impacts.

I can think of three options for camera droppers.

Buy <$150 cameras
Buy used cameras from Craigslist.
Do it your self protection

For some high end SLRs there is protection available.

no only thing would be to use the wrist strap. or get a camera with a neck strap

mk III is suppose to be under 4k and only drawback is the 1.3 crop but i can live with that. i almost got the s3 is as a backup but went with a extra dslr

I looked at buying a Digital Rebel, however, since I didn't do the 35mm film thing I can't see why I would be doing the 35mm digital thing.

I bought the S31S. I paid $359 for it at the exchange. No tax. Cheapest place was Circuit City at $129, but with that it went for $157, plus I would have to drive to Burlington to get it.

The S31S uses for double A batteries.

I assume that you meant to say it was $329 at CC and $357 w/tax. Otherwise, it would seem kind of stupid not to drive to Burlington to save $200.
