They are aircraft flares. I was down at Gila Bend Tues night, last night and going down again tonight. A-10s punching parachute flares. There was a 1Lt JTAC running through the Transient Alert area while I was talking with them.
Keep watching and you'll see sporadic flares though the night. ADDED* BTW, these are parachute flares you're seeing. Slow burning, long lasting flares launched from A-10s used by ground troops for illumination. Burn time for the LUU-2 Flare is about 5 minutes. I'll try to take some video/pics tonight if/when I see them again. |
