He's ignored my emails and letters. Just left a phone message after getting this from National Association for Gun Rights.
As reported by CBS, Marco Rubio recently said: “If from what we learn emerges new policy ideas that do not infringe on Second Amendment rights but will be effective at keeping weapons out of the hands of criminals, I think we'll be open to that. I certainly would be.” For 25 years I've seen politicians do this dance. Tomorrow the anti-gunners are expected to push for a new ban on private sales of firearms amongst other things. Marco Rubio’s comments leave the door open for him to support it. I need you to call Senator Marco Rubio right now! His phone number is (202) 224-3041. Please don’t wait. Call Senator Marco Rubio and demand he publicly and vocally oppose all gun control schemes now! |

Thank you for writing to me regarding the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. I share your concern for the victims of this tragedy.
My heart breaks for the victims and families impacted by this senseless act of violence. In a world that can at times be defined by its darkness, children are a reminder of what is good, cheerful and beautiful about life. An act of violence against these defenseless young people, as well as the faculty and staff who dedicate themselves daily to educating and caring for them, is a deed of unconscionable evil. I pray that God holds Newtown close as the community continues to heal from this tragedy. In the aftermath of this unspeakable tragedy, like millions of Americans, I am looking for public policy changes that might prevent such a horrible event from happening again. I continue to be a strong supporter of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which guarantees citizens the right to safely and responsibly bear arms. At the same time, I have always been open to measures that would keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. In light of this horrible tragedy, I am open to new ideas to prevent mass tragedies like this from happening again. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your United States Senator. I appreciate your concern regarding this situation. If I can ever be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Marco Rubio United States Senator Each week I provide a weekly update on issues in Washington and ways in which my office can assist the people of Florida. "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." I must have missed the part about "safely & responsibly" bearing arms. |

For all the Choad and Weasel comments: "Nothing the president is proposing would have stopped the massacre at Sandy Hook. President Obama is targeting the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens instead of seriously addressing the real underlying causes of such violence," Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said. "Rolling back responsible citizens' rights is not the proper response to tragedies committed by criminals and the mentally ill." Sending email and letting him know how you feel helps the cause. Bitching in an echo chamber will not.

From his website:
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement reiterating his support for the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, in light of President Obama’s announcement regarding gun policy in America: “As the father of four young children, I was deeply saddened by the murder of innocent kids at Sandy Hook. In the aftermath of this terrible tragedy, I expressed my hope that President Obama and our elected leaders would take a sober look at how we can prevent such heinous murders in the future. Doing so would require addressing the underlying causes of these evil acts, and keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill without curtailing the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. “Nothing the President is proposing would have stopped the massacre at Sandy Hook. President Obama is targeting the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens instead of seriously addressing the real underlying causes of such violence. Rolling back responsible citizens’ rights is not the proper response to tragedies committed by criminals and the mentally ill. Making matters worse is that President Obama is again abusing his power by imposing his policies via executive fiat instead of allowing them to be debated in Congress. President Obama’s frustration with our republic and the way it works doesn’t give him license to ignore the Constitution. “Guns are not the problem; criminals with evil in their hearts and mentally ill people prone to violence are. Rather than sweeping measures that make it harder for responsible, law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms, we should focus on the root causes of gun violence and keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. “As a strong defender of the 2nd Amendment, I will oppose the President’s attempts to undermine Americans’ constitutional right to bear arms.” http://www.rubio.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=72a2c727-5584-494a-a012-225b11c7eb60 Nothing weasel about that. |

Rubio made it pretty clear on O'Reilly that he opposed Obama's recommendations.
I found it odd that Rubio stated that Florida was not looking at changing any of the current laws that restrict gun rights but Rick Scott in another interview stated that current guns laws should be reviewed. |

Nothing weasel about that. +1 I know we're all a little leary of most R's lately, and rightly so since so many have turned into typical DC RINO's after sounding good during their campaign, but I think Rubio is the real deal. You'll never find a politician you can fully trust, or one that believes in everything you believe in 100%, but I think he's got good values and isn't afraid to stand up and be heard. Hopefully he doesn't make me eat my words. |
