If you need an acidwash done I'll be coming there in the spring to do a few. FirearmTom1's pool and one other. I have 20 years in the business.

How long since you drained it? Many, many problems can be solved with new water, water over 3 years old gets hard to maintain in the desert.

It has been 3 years. I have these green spots that will not go away. No mater what I put in the pool to kill it or how much clorine or shock or whatever. I scrub it and it will not break up and go away. Ugggggggggggggggggggggggggggg.

I only have seven years in the buisness, but I think Wolfpack is right.  Your TDS (total dissolved solids) is probably high.  Did you take a sample to your pool store to be tested?

You said you have a saltwater system? I personally don't like them. If you are not floating stabilized chlorine tabs you may have no conditioner in the pool which would bring algae on fast in the summer as the system is losing chlorine as fast as it is generating it. Also, don't buy cheap algaecides, ask for Silvertrine this stuff works and won't foam at all.

I'd still drain and refill so you're starting out fresh.

+1 on Silvertine.  The stuff is supposed to be the best, but sometimes its hard to find.

I'd advise against draining your pool.  You will need to replaster your pool if you make a habit of draining your pool every few years.

PM me for more info.

Ok, more info.

1 I am selling the house. Must get rid of green spots.
2 Pool is 3 years old and has not been drained.
3 will the above mentioned stuff kill the green stuff
4 Will I need a acid wash to clean it
5 or should I drain the pool. put a cover on it and convert it into a bunker.

You can try this, add Cyanuric acid (like 4-5 pounds) through the skimmer SLOWLY add it as if you pour it too fast it will jam the pump.

Then get the chlorine level up if it isn't now, add a few bags of salt if needed.

With system on add 1 quart of Silvertrine, next day it should be sparkling.

If the algae is just regular old green algae and not black algae the Silvertrine will get rid of it easy.

Not if it is acidwashed by someone who knows what they are doing and the plaster company didn't apply it wafer thin.

Sounds like you need to break the water tension between the water and plaster better so the silver can get to the algae. There is actually a small layer of air between them causing poor contact.

If you fill a glass to the overflow limit you will see it is not flat but raised, this is an example of water tension. For a test place a few drops of some algeacide or conditioner in it and the water tension will break and the water will run down the side.

They put conditioners in the better algaecides or you can buy it seperatly.

To hear the green won't come off doesn't sound right, are you sure it is not black in color cause thats a different beast and not fun at all.

When I was in the biz we would use the proper silver based algacide, a water conditioner to break the tension and twice the amount of shock AT SUNDOWN. Run the equipment till it clears up in about 36 -48 hrs. Worked everytime. SALTWATER MAY BE DIFF.

If you want someone to do it call Today's swim and Patio and ask for Chris he will take care of you or bring a water sample to him.

3years, you should not need the acid bath unless you have "dirt stains" but hey it would take care of the algae I am sure. Kind of like using a nuke to get rid of a mouse.

For the other guy losing chlorine to quick, add stabilizer and the good tabs with stabilizer. it keeps the sun from breaking down the chlorine.

When you drain there are numerous chems you need to add to get the water where it needs to be so bring a sample after the pool is refilled.
Believe it or not you may need to add Calcium even out in AZ, or it will leach it from the plaster, alkalinity plus, stabilizer and I am sure I forgot some others.
