"This time, it's personal".... Thanks. I'm going to entertain myself trying to get them over the next few weeks- I was going to make a trap but found out a friend of mine has one he'll loan. I have a neighbor lined to check it when we aren't there. (Bro-in-law's hunter friend was kind of added to the mix by him a couple of days ago; he brought a moultrie type feeder up today too and it is set up nearby. I hadn't counted on someone else being inthe formula but this guy is pretty experienced and wiling so i didn't protest). I'll keep your offer as a back up plan- thanks. |

I would be willing to volunteer my services if needed....Hell, maybe we can have a homeotwn shoot....On a live action range....Let me know when you want me to come and shoot some of these things.... I also know of atleast 2 other people who would be willing to clear your land of the infestation |

Damn I love this forum! People are so eager to help out a fellow arfcomer in need. I have a little blood lust myself right now, revenge and everything you know. If my schedule keeps me from getting up there i'll call in reinforcements..... You are all tagged for future reference. |

in the spirit of the hunt, i present an ancient Georgian text- only recently discovered and translated: Then did the Lord say, "First thou tippith up thine Holy 'shine jug. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting And the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, Neither shalt thou count two, Excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, Being the number of the counting, be reached, Thou shall let forth a mighty yell, And thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, Shall know his time hath come. And there was a great battle. And the people did rejoice and did vary in their methods. The Potato Gun of Smite did come, and foundeth a target. Thine Holy Paratrooping Pig Assasins came forth, And piggies were slain. And thine nalgene bottle of Tannerite was lifted on high, And there was a prayer: “Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, In thy mercy.” And piggies were slain. But those gentlemen on ARFCOM then-a-bed Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Hoggin' day. But we in it shall be remembered- We few, we happy few, we band of drunkards; For he to-day that drinkith shine with me, And huntith thine evil piggy, Shall be my brother. |
| MMMMnothing like hookin up wiht some hogs on a saturday night....Oh wait, Not that kinda hoggin, sorry my bad...But hey I have done my fair share of hookin up with hogs on a saturday night....You could send one hoggie corpse my way, I tend to have bonfires in my back yard, and that would be a good feast for the neighborhood... |
I hear you but those types of hogs can be drunk into princesses after midnight. Unfortunatly they are hogs again the next morning. not that i have any first hand experience... well at least not in the last 25 years anyway. I picked up the scope today. It is an ITT D441 gen III 3x scope. I was going to mount it on one of my rifles but it came with a bushmaster varminteer stuck to its base, so I'll have to make do. The bolt looke dlike it had been baked in a brownie and then put back in the gun. I've cleaned it and it will be reassembled and ready to go in a little while. I'm either going to hea dup there at dusk tonight or sleep in a bit then head up aroiund 3AM to try and catch a couple hours before sunup. Any opinions about the best time for these things? first 1/3 of night, middle or last 1/3? Or does it matter? |

No luck. Got there 4:45AM Sunday, too late. I set up a "stand" with a good line of fire to my pig pipe as well as a good view of all the lower pasture which is so rutted up. I bundled up with poncho on but that night I got soaked in the monsoon that hit. I dried clothes some by fireplace went back out 330 - 530, nothin. I was on the screen porch dozin in and out in chair in a sleeping bag when i wasn't out. Nothing came up in the yard. This morning checked baited area, couple had been by- When i crashed at 530 i crashed hard, someone with dogs drove to gate of property and started tracking them. Local fannin plate, I'm thinking if it wasn't one of you deadbeats I have to say the NV is now something i have to ge one day. In the moonlight you can see into the woods better than daylight due to the contrast. I was amazed. Too bad i wasn't awake or on the spot when when the damn things decided to show up. |
Thats a good way to get someone shot, or someones dog shot, Think about it, Your creeping through the woods on your own property, Neighbors friend comes up with his dogs, They get yoru scent and head that way, he sees you and BANG your dead. Or you dont know it, think its feral dogs and BANG one of them gets it... I would ask the neighbor to let you know when someones gonna be there |
No kidding, it wasn't the most comforting thought I had last weekend, thats for sure. Call into neighbor right now, haven't heard back yet. I took a couple of pictures of the truck including tag if it turns out nobody knows who this was... Earlier that night was out watching the feeder from about 75 yards hunkered behing a logpile on the creekbank when all hell broke loose- multiple large cal gun shots from just off the property to the south on the way in. AT first I thought it was someone else hunting the hogs who got them on the way in. Then i realized it was the other neighbor- it was midnight so they let loose in at midnight into the darkness. WHere I was I was out of any line of fire but geez i hunkered down until it stopped. They are getting a call too. All that racket couldn't have helped bring any hogs on in, so I moved to the porch for a while to doze and get completely out of the way if they fired again after more partying or whatever. |

Maybe you were hit by Hogzillas... see abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2774513 and ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=534015 |
I don't own a 50 cal so that would most certainly be an issue. update on the teeny hogs of the cohuttas- dog man who parked was a local, chase done down off the property that day - got a bigger one up on ridge behind me a couple weeks ago that was 150+. says he runs two types of dogs, hounds of some sort then "bulldogs" (he talking pit bulls?) Tracks with the hounds, when they find one and and tire it out a bit the bulls are let loose. they immobilize the hog by clamping on ears, legs etc. he says he does the deed with a freekin knife. I checked him out with a couple of locals te said yes he was not BS'in. He said it was "great sport" and i should try it sometime. I may run with him one day up there but i will be carrying more than a knife. hogs are still at both feeders; bro-in-law's friend missed them last weekend too, at least friday night/sat morning he did- got out there 4:00 am. he was either late or his port-blind or scent spooked them off. I'm out of town tomorrow through sunday so the hogs will have to wait. employer sending me and spouse to Maui for a few days- not sure i deserve it but i'm getting on the plane |

With all the dogs hanging on around his head a knife is the safest thing to do(so you don't shoot a dog). |
| Congrats man, I bet it feels like you shot a stalker preying on your wife. I know I hate it when I have an animal constantly doing something that I cant do anything about. But I usually get the upper hand. Now if I could just pop the wifes cat. I owuld be on cloud 9 |
