We are headed to Portland later this week and have tickets to see the Timbers play Saturday night. We are staying out in Hillsboro and thought about taking the MAX into downtown to catch the Timbers game and then catch an Uber ride back out to Hillsboro that night.
Is the MAX line safe? We will have my son with us and I don't want have to worry about anything on our way into Portland. Should we just use Uber both ways? Also does anyone know of a way to get a guest pass to the Nike Company Store? Thanks, |

I used to ride the max 4-5x a week to get to work. Its fine, although I usually have my CCW with me so little bothers me. At night some of the stops can get sketchy in Hillsboro, but not bad. I bet if you are going to the Timbers game there will be a lot of folks heading in from Hillsboro. So I wouldn't worry about it. But be warned. The "Keep Portland Weird" folks usually ride the max so you can't unsee some of that mess.

I'm thinking we will definitely ride in on the MAX but take an Uber ride back out. Is there any spots we should go while we are there. Where the best place to pickup beer? I would love to bring back a variety of things I can't get here. |

I ride it very rarely, but when I do I don't really worry about scumbags that much.
I wouldn't worry about it during peak travel time use (Ie; game nights). Just don't stand too close to a door where somebody can do a quick grab and dash on your stuff. I typically end up riding it from the airport to almost Hillsboro after 11pm and have never had an incident. |

Real donuts can be had out at Joe's donuts in Sandy or Everyday is Donut Day in Aloha (inbetween hillsboro and Beaverton. There are a couple other places but it's hard when you have had good ones at these mom and pop shops. After that there really isn't much in portland that you can't live with out. You can get beer everywhere here. I don't drink, but everywhere you go, there are craft beers and stuff. Even at the supermarkets. Same with the wine. If you want to get your snob on you can go around to all the wineries. One thing you can do, especially in hillsboro, is get some good mexican food. Ochoa's in Hillsboro is good. There is a market on baseline that makes some of the biggest freaking burritos I have ever seen. The hillsboro farmer's market on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings is nice. Lots of good food and fresh berries and vegetables. |

Will you only have a little bit before the game or is it more like a couple of days? It might make a difference what kind of stuff people recommend to you. |
