Hi All,

I'm looking at a potential move form Southern California to Dallas for work.  Can anyone suggest a nice community?  I"ve been told South Lake is nice, and I've heard the Park Cities are nice.  I'm a gun enthusiast in CA, which is hard to do, and I'm already wondering how hard it will be to unmodify my Mforgery and AK's.  Can anyone suggest a good outdoor range for long range shooting as well?  Also, is there a link to Concealed Carry laws in Texas, is TX a may issue or a will issue state?  I was laughed out of the Sherriff's station here in CA when I asked.

thanks,
Tom

leaving Cali is a beautiful thing, I spent 2 years in san diego,,back in dallas now for a while..

locations to live in dallas are dependant on earnings, highland park and south lake are big money..
plano, carrolton, frisco maybe areas you want to check out.
long range shooting only place I kkno of is gibsons in sunnyvale/mesquite (suburbs of dallas)
concelled carry,
residence established, take classes, apply, issed if background and class is passed.

Sell you Kali guns before you leave and buy the real ones here..

keep the uppers if they're any good; a decent lower can be build for around $200, if you don't need alot of whistles & bells.  there's alot of threads on moving from kali to  various parts of texas all over this board. I left SF 2 years ago, but hey, I was just moving back home. welcome

I don't know if you are a home owner or not but if you are then
I would suggest that you buy a home equal in quality not equal in price.
Although TX has no state income tax, property tax is high.
If I remember correctly, I was paying 1.25% in CA for property tax
I think Colin county is 2.5%.

Lot of my coworkers who moved with me from Ventura to Dallas made
mistakes to buy huge homes (or what they call medium size homes in TX) in 2002.  What they did not realize was
1. Property tax
2. Cooling and heating bill (it gets very hot and sometimes snows)
3. HOA.  Most communities have HOAs

What I did instead was we sold our home for $300k in Ventura (yeah, it
used to be that low) and bought a home for $150k in Frisco.  Frisco
became too crowded for us so we moved out to the country.
I still own the home in Frisco and rent it out but I live on 110 acre farm.

Whenever I want to shoot, I just opened the front door and shoot.

As far as guns, legally you won't be able to buy any for 3+ months.
It was agonizing wait (I could have lied on 4473 but I didn't)

Gunshows are unbelievable.  Private transfers are awesome.

By the way, there are many good homes for sale so look around.  Unlike S. Cal,
there is always new homes being built.

Why the 3 month wait to purchase guns?..If you have a job, driver's licence, and purchased a home here you are a resident. I've never seen a place on the 4473 where it asks how long you've been a resident for, it just asks if your are a resident.

Definitely not a 3-month wait.  I had my Texas DL in about a month and I was at the funshow the next week.
