| Just found out that I will possibly getting laid off here soon. Always wanted to move out West and strongly thinking Colorado. I come from a county of 37,000 people, decently rural in central Ohio. Currently a corrections officer, I have a LPN degree but its on hold since I stopped that career path. I'm 27 and have a strong work ethic (only called off twice since the age of 16) Anyone have some info as to where to relocate too? Ill do pretty much any work just dont know where to look in Colorado. Anyone have some pointers on where to look? Thanks guys. |

if you still have your LPN license the VA in colorado springs is hiring:
http://www.usajobs.gov/JobSearch/Search/GetRefineControlResults?Keyword=lpn&Location=colorado&SelectedRadiusOption=20&search=Search%21 I live in CO Springs and love it. Hiking, shooting, fishing, hunting all 15-20 minutes away. edit: used to live in in Northern KY/cinci ohio - though a nice area colorado is way better. we need more gun toters out here. |

Still have it its just on hold. I dont think it would transfer to a different state tho? I looked at the link that someone else posted but it took me to a dead link. It appears like everything is situated around Denver and not random and spread out like it is here in center Ohio. BTW Go Bengals. |

go to usajobs.com and search lpn colorado
you dont have to have a colorado license it is a federal job, any state license will suffice. denver is too built up for me (the springs is pretty built up too) I'd prefer the west slope but no job for me out there. you also may want to look at supermax in florence, they are always hiring co's |
| Not really wanting to get back in to nursing. Just wasn't for me. I've been looking since before posting and have many book marked waiting to hear if the city is going to cut our budget even more or not.I have a little saved up that will help with moving expenses. Have to move the girlfriend and 9month old boy along with me or shortly after I get foundation laid. She is a STNA and wants to continue to be so she wont have a hard time finding work. |

Not sure if this is a current opening (says 2010 on their webpage) http://www.clearcreeksheriff.us/job_postings/Detentions%20Deputy.pdf
Smaller population. Right between ski areas/hunting/biking/rafting/hiking/camping/etc and Denver metro |

Right between ski areas/hunting/biking/rafting/hiking/camping/etc and Denver metro I like that part. I was about to purchase a mt bike in a day or two, have a snow board, have guns obviously, been rafting a few times and have a hiking trip scheduled for Yosemite in July! I have just been scrolling around the map searching different Sheriffs offices. Ill check that one out thanks a lot! |

Western slope if you want to stay in a smallish town. Grand Junction, Delta and Montrose would be my choices. Would rather stay in a smaller town. Unless Magpul wants to hire me haha Well, I'll re-iterate my earlier response. IMHO, western Colorado is the "real" Colorado. The rugged west. Where seeing cowboys isn't an unusual occurrence. Where you can drive less than 20 minutes out of the center of town and truly be in the middle of nowhere. People are friendly and respectful. I've had a car honk their horn at me just once in 6 years. Just be forewarned. Jobs are few here. Women are even less. We also don't have the dining and shopping venues of larger cities, but I'm sure you know that coming from a small town. Good luck. IM me if you have any specifics you would like answered. |

Job and housing would be my only worry. If I come out the girl and my 9month old would be coming with me. I hate store shoping god bless the internet! |

Bit more rural in terms of Larimer and Weld counties. You still have the big cities, Loveland, Ft Collins and Greeley, but you can get away from them and still have a city for the woman/ kid units. I lived in Loveland for quite some time, Technically I lived in Mason but its so far west that it was in the mountains. Nice places. Just something to think about. |

If you are interested in staying on corrections, I have a few contacts both in the Sheriffs office, as well as the Corrections dept. I can see if they are hiring, or planning to. I know a lot of people are going to suggest the front range. Just keep in mind that to get to all the recreation in the mountains, you're going to have to brave the traffic heading up the "hill' - i.e. I70. Housing is as cheap as it's ever been out here. The O&G bust really brought things back into perspective. I've seen houses in the $90K range that were respectable. Good luck. |

Ill be in contact via pm once I find out if we are getting laid off here in the next few days. City cut our budget because they owe on a loan for a Ethonal plant that ran for 6 months then shut down and the city got stuck with the 2 million bill. We are running at bare bones as it is and we have to do the city and county. 1 male, 1 female corrections for 50 inmates (we have a low pop currently) have 2 guys in the county 2 in the city and one SGT. If some one calls off there is no replacements. |
