A GD post got me thinking:

-what if we win in November? (McCain of course).  I live near D.C.  Anyone think there will be civil unrest? Should we take that month off & celebrate our victory far, far from D.C.?

Reason I bring it up: while waiting in line at the primary, I noticed the Obama people seemed really REALLY fanatical about this election.  Everyone wants to win - that is a given. If we lose - it will be sad, and it will suck for 4 years, but - oh well. That's how democracy works.  No matter which candidate prevails, I know that at the end of that day democracy wins.

But, the coversations I overheard made me think the pro-Obama people might freak out if they lose.

Anyone else notice that level of fanaticism? I hope I am wrong.

The Dem convention in Filly will be very interesting.

Clinton is going to make a stab at the nomination.  The powers that be might realize that in the general election, she is much more electable than B. Hussein Obama.

When BHO gets denied the nomination in the City of Brotherly Love (a city that overwhelmingly voted for him in the primaries) there willbe riots a plenty.  a plenty.

How much civil unrest can a bunch of hippies and emo kids cause?

On one hand, those types you describe protest the world trade organization in Seattle a few years back & all they did was break a few store windows & trash a starbucks. I am not too worried about them. They'll just cry into their low-fat lattes and play their Fugazi CDs over and over.

On the other hand, I  understand that in 1968, the D.C. riots over the assinination of Martin Luther King utterly gutted sections of downtown and the city has not been the same since.  Losing an election is in no way comparable to the assassination of Dr. King. But on the other hand, I just got a really wierd feeling of desperation from the people I saw at the polling station, that's all. I lived on the left coast when the decision in the Rodney King case came down, and to be honest, I did not see that one coming - nor the reaction it provoked (who did?).  Again, I really hope I'm wrong about how desperate some voters seem to be.

I was in high school in Farifax County when King was assassinated, my older was in the Army Band and was on a job in DC when the SHTF.

He ended up with stitches in his lip (not good for a guy who plays trombone for a living), I was in 2 riots when the twenty-somethings from the local neighborhood thought that beating up on high school kids would be a good way to voice their displeasure.

I'm older now, and in a better position to defend myself.  I hope things remain civil, but who knows what the reaction might be if BHO looses either the nomination or the election.  I hope it ain't a repeat of '68.

No, I understand your point... and I'd think it's fairly valid.  I don't quite see massive turmoil and full-fledged riots... but I suppose anything's possible.  Especially in the areas most populated by the socialists/dependents.
I have several friends that are die-hard Obama fans... their wonder-boy can do no wrong.  I avoid political discussion at all costs, but I can only imagine that a big chunk of their devotion is pinned on the dream that he'll "make change" in DC and create this wonderful Utopia for all of us.  Both they (and I) are too young to remember the disastrous results of the last guy who tried to bring about change (Mr Peanut).  Too clueless to realize it's a pipe-dream and so blinded that even if BHO gets elected, should he muck anything up... it'll still be Bush's fault (again, their wonderboy can do no wrong!)

In any case... should Obama be the Dem ticket, and should he lose... I wouldn't put it past any of the people I know to join protests, claiming a right-wing conspiracy at the hands of Ted Nugent, Exxon and Pat Robertson.  I have no doubts there would be unrest somewhere... to what extent, whether something worthy of concern or something worthy of shrugging your shoulders, I can't say.

Now if for some reason, Hil gets the Dem ticket... and loses... I don't think anything will happen whatsoever.  While her supporters are just as dimwitted , they lack the 'excitement' of BHOs followers

Didn't they riot pretty good during the DNC in Chicago in '68? Wasn't that over the election nominee?

Actually, after reading your post i was not exactly sure, so i looked around a bit and came up with these sites (looks like in Chicago, they rioted from April 4-8 of 1968 over the assassination fo Dr. King, and then again in August 1968 when the Yippies and Chicago7 brought violence to the convention):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Democratic_National_Convention_Protests:

I was born in 1967.

M.Hoffman - that is just freaking awesome!

The libs preach tolerance and "let's all get along". They claim the conservatives are evil to the core. But who usually throws a temper tantrum, if they don't get their way all the time? Can't any of the libs acknowledge their hypocrisy and grow up? They're starting to collect social security and they act worse than two year olds!
