I told my five year old son to draw a picture of how he wanted his jack o lantern to look and this is exactly what he drew. He even made a checklist to mark off the different parts as I was cutting. It isn't fancy but he is proud of his creation. 
Eta: Here's one my buddy did. Yes, it is carved/shaved and filled in with glow in the dark paint.
