I will be working overseas every other year and the wife is a RN, where would be a ideal place where I would have quick access to places to shoot while having a good place for the wife to work as well? |
| you should know that VT is getting expensive, the pop is graying, and many younger are leaving the state and not coming back. there is hospital work available, but it would put you somewhat close to town, or you end up driving alot...you should check with some realtors for house prices, land can be very $$$$. myself, I'm leaving after retirement... |
| You should look at southern New Hampshire maybe around the Alstead area. You would be to far from some large medical facilities and there are to correctional facilities within 30 miles and RN's make a killing within DOC. Springfield Vt and I believe Maplewood? in westmoreland NH. New Hampshire is best for gunners. Even though you need a licence to carry you can own silencers. In Vt it is a no no. SGT Bell |

I would recommend that your wife look into working at Dartmouth Hitchock Medical Center, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. It is, by far, the best hospital in the twin states. The nearest comparable place is probably in Boston. I work at DHMC and couldn't imagine a nicer place to work. The facilities, staff and location are top notch. The place is also always growing and hiring. RN's have a lot of options here, particularly if she wants to get into outpatient care. The surrounding area is really nice. I grew up here and I still like it. Lebanon, West Lebanon and Hanover are all close together towns in New Hampshire. Right across the river is Norwich, White River Junction and Hartford. Depending on how far she is willing to commute, you have your choice of numerous other towns that are less expensive to live in both NH and VT. There are a couple of ranges in the area, although nothing to get real excited about. It's New England, so of course there are all sorts of great options for outdoors activities and Dartmouth College in Hanover brings in lots of 'culture' and such. It's a nice balance of rural and developed I think. In this area there isn't a whole lot of difference between VT and NH except for tax rates. New Hampshire has no income tax, if that helps you decide. |

Dont let the fact that NH has no income tax influence your decision. All states have to make up tax money, they just do it in different ways. Fletcher Allen in Burlington is always looking for nurses as is the hospital in Windsor. Gifford hospital in Randolph is a nice area. Property within a half hour of either Burlington or Hanover is gonna be fairly expensive. But if you get a decent car and stay cose to an interstate exit you can get a bit farther away. I am 10 minutes from Hanover and in the last 10 years my property value has almost doubled! If I could afford it I would sell and move...... |
